Alignment problems printing direct to DVD with Epson R220

I know this question isn't specifically related to iDVD but I wondered if someone could help please?

I recently bought an Epson R220 printer to print direct to DVDs created with iDVD as I know labels stuck onto DVDs are best avoided.

However, using both the bundled Epson Print CD software and 'disclabel', I find the print is about 1cm off centre. I'm really surprised by this, as I thought these machines would just work out of the box - detecting through the software where the centre of the DVD is? I've tried everything to remedy this (including the position adjustment within Print CD which allows up to 5mm fine-tuning). The problem is I need more than fine tuning - the print is way off!

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has an R200 or R220 and might have had a similar problem as I've spoken to Windows users with the same printer, who report no such hassle.

Many thanks,

Ant

Frank - many thanks for your helpful post. I'm afraid the suggested choices you make just aren't available in my edition of Print CD.

I'll describe fully what I see.

File>Print. The window that appears has no Copies & Pagies option. Only if I go to "Manual Print" do I get this option. So now I'm in manual print, and I will only get the pop up Copies and Pages drop after I've 'OKd' the 'Page Set Up' window which appears first. Still in the 'Page Setup' window, I make sure the Paper Size is set to A4 and the orientation is on portrait.

After OKing this, I get the 'Print' window. There I have the 'Copies & Pages' dropdown. Media is then set to CD/DVD. I also get the Presets option and I can save this setting.

But I don't have the 'EPSON Print CD' option to click on - apart from the EPSON Print CD words in the top left of the screen, next to the Apple icon. If I click on this, I have only the option to Hide EPSON Print CD, or Hide Others. Nowhere do I have the Position Adjustment option in any of the Manual Print boxes.

If I go to straight File>Print, I DO have the Position Adjustment button option, but there is only room there to fine tune print position as previously described. Nowhere is there an 'Enter Measurements Directly' box.

A shame I can't send you a screen shot - as it would probably be easier to describe!

I'll see if the new printer makes a difference to the straight 'File>Print' option - if not it must surely be an issue with the latest release of Print CD.

Again, thanks for taking the time to respond and for looking at the Epson website for me,

Ant
