Can't move apps on iPhone to another page

I've got an iPhone 6+ with a heavy duty Otterbox case with screen protector. On top of that, my fingers aren't exactly petite. (Thank the gods for Swype.)

I drag an icon to the side using a fingertip. While dragging, I gradually rotate my finger so that only my fingernail is in contact with the icon. I then drag it to the side and hold it against the edge until it moves to the adjacent screen.

Hold app icon til it wiggles. Then drag to edge of screen ( left or right ) side and the page will change. If you swipe too fast the icon will go back to where you grabbed it

If 3D Touch is activated you have to play around with how hard you push down on the apps you want to move.
