I suspect you're using an app such as TextEdit.
This suggestion will involve using TextEdit, if using a different app follow the same instructions.
There is no pre-set keyboard shortcut for the spelling command. You can set your own keyboard shortcut.
1. Open System Preferences and go to the Keyboard & Mouse Pref.
2. Click on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab
3. Click the plus icon towards the left corner out outside the box with keyboard shortcuts
4. A pop up will show. Choose your applications (i.e. TextEdit or Microsoft Word)
5. This part is critical. In the Menu Title field, type the text of the command in the menu bar, in your case type "Spelling". Yes there's three periods after it, but disregard putting them in this field.
6. In the Shortcut field, you will now choose the keyboard shortcut (easy to use the same one as you would in your previous applications). Hold down the modifer key (Command (Apple key), Option, Control or Shift). and pressing a letter on the keyboard still while holding the modifer key.
7. Click OK
8. Either launch or relaunch TextEdit. Right/Control click in the text space and see if your keyboard shortcut was added.
