I have a iPad and iPhone 5 have got some duplicate pictures which have come from computer, I no longer have a laptop, do I need a laptop to remove pictures? As seam daft to have iPad and laptop.

Are you sure you have duplicates?
Are you simply seeing the photo in the photo library (where all you synced photos are stored) and then you access that exact same photo from the album you synced?

If those Photos that say 'from Computer' were transfer from the computer to the device using iTunes, then they cannot be removed by the device itself. You have to reconnect the device to the computer and choose to 'unsync' them.
