Error 3253

I keep getting error 3253 "network connection was reset" whenever I try to download anything. My network connection is fine; I am only having troubles with iTunes. I can eventually finish a download, but it takes a half dozen tries or more. Anyone?

Also having the same issues... though with the latest iOS update. Everytime I try downloading v7.1.1 it says 1.4GB to be downloaded - on my phone it says the update is 26Mb - go figure??.

Anyway it starts to download and then about 300 to 500Mb in it craps out with 'err = -3253'. I tried movies too and it happens with them also. I'm in Ireland so based on locations and various different ISPs being stated on this thread it cannot be ISP related.

Nothing has changed on my network setup and I have tried using Google & OpenDNS DNS's but this has not resolved anything. I only really noticed it happening with me after I installed the Security Update 2014-002 - coincidence??

Reading about how Apple is absolving themselves of any responsibility for this ridiculousness by blaming our various ISPs is beyond infuriating (Toronto, Canada / Rogers Cable network via Teksavvy). Exact same problem here with the latest version of ITunes on a Window8.1 PC.

Simply including an option to resume downloading automatically after an error is a thing Apple could include in one of their innumerable updates to ITunes. Perhaps they could also give us the option to limit it to 1000 errors per download session or whatever. A little field to choose how many network errors you want your session to ignore shouldn't be that hard to implement.

Apple needs to stop lying to people. Saying it is anything other than their fault is clearly just a lie at this point.

They need to fix this problem, and NOW. It's happening with multiple ISPs, in different states, on both Windows and Macs, with no clear connection. It's very obviously an Apple problem that needs an Apple solution. They need to stop misinforming consumers and start fixing it.

States and countries. Their business isn't just tied to the USA although if this approach continues & expands, it may soon be.

Later last night, I was able to minimize the number of errors by unchecking "Allow simultaneous downloads" and ensuring the ITunes download got every last byte of bandwidth my ISP allows. Still, the last download of the many that started around 7:45am seemed to be the buggiest. There's no way my ISP could have known that was to be my last download so it seems to imply this is Cupertino playing "Ha-ha" for our ISPs sake - I looked into the pricing for speedier service - not pretty. Shrug.

My service maxes out at 6Mbs/sec per the terms of service - their lowest tier service. I use software called "DU Meter" to monitor how fast & how much the machine is actually downloading so I can ensure ITunes is getting everthing my ISP allows. They don't appear to have a version of DU Meter for Mac (or Apple TV or Samsung TV or smartphone) but there may be a similar product out there for Macs at least.

Exact same issue with me. Constant interruptions when downloading anything of a reasonable size (150mb>). My home network and ISP are otherwise rock solid. I'm with BT Infinity in the UK and download speed is typically 65Mbps. I've tried my second Mac and it's the same issue. Have tried most of the possible solutions posted on here and, sadly, to no avail.

As with most of you I'm a long-time Mac user and I'm getting increasingly disollusioned with silly issues like this across an otherwise excellent OS (OS X Mavericks). iTunes is just getting so unwieldy and clunky, particularly if you have a large music collection.

Best of luck to everyone; let's hope that this and other threads are picked up on and addressed in a timely manner for the next iTunes update.

Now it even happens to updates of apps and bought music downloads.

The single-file downloads can be downloaded in the end, but the problem are the iTunes Extras which are split in many large files and so it always starts downloading again and again and again, .......

Does anyone know when it started ?

Was there an security update or something which caused those problems?

The other night iTunes actually let me watch a movie in the cloud. I clicked a bunch of movies I needed to download... but DID NOT have allow simultaneous downloads on. When I was done with the movie I checked and all but two of 8 did not download properly...

I haven't been able to repeat this again... but it did work once.

It is ridiculous that Apple is refusing to admit that it is their issue and stop blaming it on our internet connections! It cannot be everyone from Cananda to the US to the UK has sucky internet. I personally run at 99 mbps download... other steaming services don't have this problem.

I wonder if anyone at Apple actually reads these discussions?

This problem just began for me in the last month. Pretty irritating. I've really only had the problem downloading movies, but I get the -3235 error about 5 to 10 times per movie and have to continue to restart the download process until I chug along to the end of the download. Luckily, the download picks up where it left off. I have a 15-inch Macbook Pro, Early 2011, 2.2GHz Intel Core i7. I use iTunes 10.7 (didn't like iTunes 11). Never turned Genius on and do not use simultaneous downloads. Tried resetting my DNS connections to open Google sites (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220), but it made no difference. My carrier is ATT and I'm on a DSL with a fiber optic line at the street.

Hey I been having this same problem for over a week now. I contacted apple support about 5 times and I think I talked to every senior tech there about this problem. We have done every trouble shooting to solve this problem but no luck. I told them that the problem is in iTunes not my computer. Well they logged into my computer to check it out and found nothing. So now they gave me a program that records everything that happens while the download is running and until it errors out. We'll it error out in 5 minutes of the download and I sent them the package file for them to see what's going on. The file was sent to the iTunes engineers. Now I got to wait to see what happens. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Right!!

Further to latest posts by Baumgartner17 & WarrenO, got through 523MB of a 1.35GB (33 minute) download (Governed As It Were By Chance / Orphan Black) before encountering my first & only Error 3253 this Sunday morning.

Click. Click.

Can't chalk it up to catching up with my ISP's bill (Canada>RogersNetwork>TekSavvy>ITunesOnWin8.1u1) though as that's been in order from before this started and has stayed in order. Warren0 probably has it right.

Perhaps our telecom oligopolies are spending too much time in their boardrooms figuring out how to take over as our only providers & content creators while spending not enough time making things that actually work? There's Apple, caught in the crossfire? Or it's just Apple being Apple?

Maybe there's more out in the blogosphere about this... time to hunt.

On the bright side, only one error is better than several.

I have started having this same issue the past few weeks. It effects both Windows and Mac machines. I do not buy into the ISP because this is only a problem with iTunes downloads. I can download 3 or 4 gig files from any other source without any issues what so ever. Additionally I can stream from my Apple TV without any issues and can do so all day. Apple support is useless because they don't listen and think Apple products don't have issues. What sense does it make to suggest resetting my account to redownload all my content again?

1) downloading is the problem

2) if this happens with new purchases what does that have to do with old purchases?

3) how is it my ISP when it's only iTunes that is effected?

Apple products are great until there is an issue then they are worse than Windows because for one they don't give you the tools to troubleshoot on your own. Second because Apple doesn't seem to have the support infrastructure in place to support their products.

I'm about done with apple and will start looking into other options for my media purchases.

Yeah, this isn't an ISP issue. This has been happening with my iTunes downloads and nothing else. I frequent Rifftrax.com and download both the HD MP4s and DVD ISOs. Never an issue. I work as a freelance video editor and have to download large files on a regular basis. Never a problem there, either. Between just those two alone, I regualrly download files between 1.5 GB up to 30 GB and they go through without a hitch and in a timely manner. Anything over 200 MB in iTunes? Not a chance. I rented Wolf Creek 2 the other night and it took me over an hour just to get it all downloaded! A simple 3.5 GB file from any other source never takes me more than between 5 - 10 minutes, but iTunes doesn't seem to be able to handle it. It's getting very frustrating.
