Can anyone tell me why my Apple USB keyboard works when I connect it to a USB keyboard on my MacBook Pro, but does not always works when it is connected to a USB port on my Thunderbolt Display? Both my MB and TB display have the latest software updates.
Thunderbolt Display (27-inch), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
I have had this same problem for the past couple years with my 2013 11" i7/8gb/512gb MacBook Air. The keyboard originally worked fine on either port of the MBA, then it stopped working on the right-hand port. In fact, if I plugged it into the right-hand port, then switched it to the left-hand port, it still wouldn't work. A re-boot would not fix this either, however after a SECOND re-boot then the keyboard would work on the left-hand port. Really strange.
Glad I found this thread. Got out the old apple USB extension cord and now the keyboard seems to work fine in either MBA port. Exactly what is going on here?? Anyway, the extension cord does indeed seem to cure the problem. 🙂
Solved! Clean the cable usb connector with a toothbrush. I worked for me!
This recently started happening to both of my displays as well. Wondering if it has something to do with OS X Sierra 12.1 update, which is installed on both My MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
