Hi guys , not used Garageband for a while . After downloading update and playing around for a while . I noticed that some of the instruments are greyed out ?
Is there a reason , ie, like they have to be purchased ?

No I had not used shared in my version ,10.0.3 , but have done so now and shared as you have said in both . Just something I wanted to use for intro and background .
It now comes up from the bottom menu in imovie " garageband menu" and is displayed in the top left along with the message in the bottom of that window saying " 20 files are missing iLife preview and unavailable "
I just do not have iLife on my freshly, installed by apple, Mavericks ( feb 2014 ) . I assume that as you have said earlier I had installed the free garageband from the app store last year , version 11 , that having now updated to the ? new version 10.0.2 . That it also installed some odd stuff as I have a folder containing imovie 9.09 and iwork 9. ? in applications , in Finder .
I'm so newbie , I could scream . . lol

You will have to share the song to the Media Browser for all your projects - open each one of them in GarageBand 10.0, that you want to use in iMovie and use the "Share > MediaBrowser" command.
Thank you and will do . I have sent a feed back to garageband team , perhaps they will sort this iLfe preview thingy .
