iOS 7.1.1 Signal loss

I have just installed iOS 7.1.1 and since then have had a very weak (or no) cell signal. My wife's iPhone 4S (without update) has 3/5 bar coverage in the same room on the same network.

I have compared data and network settings and are all ok. I have rebooted my phone etc but still have this weak or lost signal.

Does anyone else have this problem?

No unfortunately the 7.1.2 update didn’t solve the problem

Since I updated from 7.1 to 7.1.1 the signal on my iphone 5s is really bad. I don’t have enough signal any more to place a call on places I could with the previous IOS version.

Apparently, 7.1.2 was only a minor update.

I tried everything, but nothing works. The only way to solve this problem would be to downgrade to the 7.1 firmware version, I guess.

It might be good if everybody could send Apple a feedback concerning this issue, so they would work on it.

I have an iphone 5. Updated to 7.1.2. Apart from the 'thank-god-it's-not-only-me' feeling, I am aghast that most of us haven't found a fix.

IM currently in talks with my service provider. Have changed the SIM but to no avail. I'm dearly hoping it is a software issue and Apple does something about it soon.

have done all resetting possible.

IF ANYONE has found a fix, please do share!

After 10 years of using iPhones (2G thru 4), I have dealt with numerous problems and have without exception solved them all myself. This latest problem of signal loss following the latest update has exhausted me. Like every other problem I have encountered, I first search this forum and find the same "solutions" that are offered for every other problem - reboot, reload, repair at the Apple store. I search third party forums only to find the same thing, but in greater numbers, with the added "assistance" of a bunch of snarky fanboys. Lastly I go to the Apple store where the Genius claims to have never heard of the problem but will be happy to send my phone out for repair for a few days and return it minus my apps, data, and music, with the great likelyhood that I will experience no difference in the performance of the handset. My iPhone has ceased to function as a telephone, the manufacturer does not have the will/desire to correct the problem in a reasonable manner, so my solution is this - I am switching to a phone that works, with an operating system I don't have to upgrade every other day, and leaving the snob appeal and IOS headaches to the fanboys. So long Apple!

Possible Explanation ...

I turn on my iPhone (ios 7) and place alongside an iPhone 4S (ios 7), and my 5S always has two dots LESS signal strength than the 4S. (Both use the same phone operator).

I phoned Apple support, and they told me to reset my IPhone to NEW state. A total waste of time. The problem persisted.

A few days later, having moved up to IOS 8, I noticed when my phone rang, the signal strength increased from two dots to four or five.

And ... when I dialled a phone number, just before connecting, the signal strength increased from two dots to four or five.

Could it be that in order to save battery, the phone operates at reduced signal strength, and when a connection is made, it goes to maximum strength possible?

It's like this, I solved my problem by simply getting another brand of phone. I am still struggling to resolve the problem on a family member's 4S. What I have found is that IOS 7.1.x and later checks your hardware for various properties and if Apple feels that it's time you bought a new phone, it makes your existing one work like crap. Apple won't let you downgrade back to the IOS that worked fine on your handset. Why do you suppose that is? If your carrier will let you switch to a different brand of phone, by all means do so. It shouldn't be so difficult to get a simple problem resolved by a manufacturer when the manufacturer caused the problem (they know what they did) and literally thousands upon thousands of users are complaining. Yet the Geniuses always claim they haven't heard of this one yet....

Do yourself a favor, go buy a phone that works as a phone and let the Fanboys get excited about where they're going to put the headphone jack next year.
