iOS 7.1.1 New Update Problems!

I have just updated my iPhone 5s and iPad 4. My iPad is working fine but my iPhone isn't. It just comes up with a picture that shows that I should connect it to iTunes on my laptop. I have done that and now it is telling me to reset and restore my iPhone before I can use it on iTunes. iTunes is updating the software onto my iPhone via my laptop but it is taking hours. I wouldn't recomend anyone to update to this new software because is seems to work for some people but not others.

Nothing is working and I don't know what to do!

Is anyone else having the same problem?

Does anyone know how to fix it?

OK update following visit to Apple store. They replaced my phone.

They were adament that the upgrade had nothing to do with the problem and that my wifi and bluetooth had simply got broken. As the phone was just 2 months old it was replaced.

They claimed to know nothing of the IOS7.1.1. issues or that the forums and internet were awash with comments.

2 months ago the power on off button failed on my phone 6 days after the warranty expired. The same apple store were unable to help claiming warranty out of date. Fortunately I live in the UK with strong consumer protection laws. The on /off button issues are also widely reported on the internet and are clearly a design fault.

Took some wrangling but phone eventaully replaced free of charge.

Now this......I have to say I find Apple really unhelpful and quite mercenary. If you spend the sort of money required to buy their kit it should have a warranty that matches the premium price, rather than having to buy insurance. The store was packed and every agent said to ever customer.."have you got insurance".

Not sure I will get another apple product now,. I simply do not like how they do business.

After reading through most of the threads and binman62's comments, I will probably not waste my time taking my 4s into Apple. Originally, I thought "$19.99 to create a one time incident" to have Apple fix my phone-so wrong. It's like insult to injury for Apple to offer such a pathetic service to us Apple users. I can understand the updates are suppose to help with security on our iphones (since there's no much of our personal data that Apple keeps record of from our phones), but these updates are making our phones useless.

Here's my laundry list of what is wrong with my 4s since the last two updates (IOS7.1 and IOS7.1.1):

- WiFi is no longer available

- Full charge lasts only over 5 hours with no use, ie texting, email checks, no push from other applications, no web surfing. Just straight plain phone so I can have a clock and a way to make an emergency call if needed.

- Full charge lasts almost 3 hours with some use, ie a bit of solitare, some web surfing, a few text messages (about 30 messages), a 1 or 2 GPS searches. **Less data streaming=longer battery life

- Some applications no longer work at all! They will simply open and close, or open and stay on the load page but never load.

- Touch screen is very very unrepsonsive (made me think at first my screen sensor was broken)

- When an application does open (could be the settings or even text) the screen is white for about 4 seconds or more before it populates.

- During phone calls, my 4s randomly goes black. When it does this there is no way do anything else-not even end the call. Once the call ends, the phone shuts down, and I'll have to wait and turn it back on. After that, the phone goes into what I refer to as "stupid mode".

- When it's in stupid mode, 1) the contact names on the history call list no longer has names- just phone numbers, 2) the 4s randomly deletes my contacts from my contact/address files (this is not only on my cell but also with icloud-I've had to re-add a few people back onto my contact list several times since I couldn't find them), 3) regular function of text messages, scrolling and general phone usage comes to a halt for a few minutes.

And yes, I have tried the whole reset/plug into the wall/plug into my Apple labtop/wipe the phone to manufacturer's setting deal and NADA. iPhone 4s is still a dud. So, I'm with binman 62, time to move on from Apple products. 😟

Me too just updated and had to restore to factory... and i have no new backup so it deleted lots of data... and this just after losing with no aparent reason 1 and a half year or data on my macbook pro. Apple products are not as relyable as t hey one were unfortunatelly and customer service is also not as good and understanding. and I just bought the new IMAC. I think it is time to review my fidelity to apple.

Just back up your data regularly, which is a standard best practice for anyone with any electronic device. I was frustrated that I had to reset to factory but I had a backup only twelve hours old so it wasn't a big deal. On my MBP I have a time machine backup so whenever I plug it in I get a backup and I do that weekly. Every electronic product can have glitches or failures. Apple provides tools to protect your data if you are willing to use the tools.

True, but not enough. I know the failure of not backing up my data regularky is mine, however I used to gladly pay more for apple products because I DONT want to have problems as often, all costs time and nerve. On my macbook pro I also have a time machine and it just lost all my back ups before february this year and all my photos for at least two years if not more... I might be able to recover it. i didnt have time yet, but to have to deal with this kinds of problems is what is making me doubt if it really makes sence to stay by apple...
