Battery Recall

I have the same problem. I live in Canada. My model number is A1061 10.8V and my serial number is 3K5020Z8RJQA. I tried these several times and it keeps saying that it is ineligible (and invalid) for a new battery, what is wrong? I know I wrote the right numbers down?

Does your computers model number fall into the range though? Sometimes it isn't just the battery number, but also your machines model number since that effects the production date.

I know my battery model # falls under that it is A1061 and my battery serial # starts with 3K502. I was looking where it says about doing the processing for the exchange and it says Computer Serial # (what is that?) and the battery serial number (which I know) do I have to put in the full battery serial number? Sorry for the questions, but this battery recall is driving me nuts.

Yes, you need to put in the full battery serial number (about 12 characters) and your laptop's serial number - often under the keyboard, but always in the "About This Mac" menu item [More Info].

Where the battery pack is located when I use a coin to unlock it there is a little screw where on the pack (is this where the battery is) I am not sure what I am suppose to take out in order to send it back when I recieve my new battery.

That entire sealed pack is the battery. (Notice those little screws are odd three-blade security screws.) Never take a lithium battery pack apart...

You'll know what to send back when you get the new one - it will be the whole pack, and you want to send back what you have now that looks the same as what you get. 🙂

On the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 Battery Exchange Support Page it says, towards the bottom, "Customers in Australia and Asia (excluding Japan) should contact their local Apple Authorized Service Provider to obtain a replacement battery."

I wouldn't imagine that Apple are expecting Aussies to go schlepping halfway across Australia to get their replacement batteries, put a bit of pressure on with your AASP to get one sent to you.

Hi All
I just pulled out my battery as stated on the battery recall sight. I pluged in my power adaptor and ran my Ibook without the battery as said on the sight and blew my hard drive. Not realy a big deal for me because I had already bought a bigger one to install. I will miss some of my data that I had not yet backed-up.
I won't install the new HD untill my replacment battery is here, just in case that had something to do with the failure.

Do all of your Apple Australia calls to a store, say, in Sydney,
go to someone who knows nothing? A sales support person
should be able to field and redirect your call to someone in-house
who can (or should be physically capable, policy procedures aside)
get the proper battery off to you in the post or by delivery truck, etc.

Since Oz is a large (distances but sparse population) you really can
be in the middle of nowhere when it comes to being near Apple stores!

[I am to call someone at Apple about some issues; I have missed
some telephone opportunities and had emailed in a reply, yet it was
suggested I also call and talk. They go beyond the battery recall.]

Huh. I didn't realize how many people are also having the same 'iBook matches, battery doesn't' problem... but my battery should, at least, in the first five characters. It starts 6C547. But my battery gets so hot to the point where I've almost burned my fingers on it a few times, and it runs loudly. I just hope they extend the free replacement. I'm going to call tomorrow, hopefully, but I'm the one who owns the iBook and I'm a minor. D:

When the recall was first announced, I found a web site that gave these serial number ranges - but now they seemed to have changed. I find that odd. My iBook and battery were covered under these ranges. But now my iBook is covered but my battery is not.

I also wonder what will become of people who can't call for other warranty services because the line are clogged or down. What happens if they go beyond their warranty period?

Why does it take 6 weeks to replace a battery?

These things are supposed to be portable. Telling us to take the battery out and use an a/c adaptor is not much use on the road...

It can take up to six weeks because it takes time to make 1.8 million battery cases, put over 12 million Li-ion cells in them, and connect 'em all to the little charge and protection circuit boards that have to be manufactured, too.

Then, of course, there's shipping them half way around the world, and to the users.

Actually, I'm amazed that with six million Dell and Apple battery packs, all using the same Sony Li-ion cells, that it can be done in anywhere near six weeks.

Three days ago, based upon the first few digits of the serial number, my iBook battery was in the recall range. I received an e-mail about the battery recall yesterday and now, with the addition of the last digits in the serial number, my battery isn't in the range. If a replacement was ordered, how does one cancel it?

Why would you want to cancel your replacement? You're not going to be charged/punished for apple's initial mistake on the battery serial numbers. I'm also in the same situation and I'm looking forward to a new battery (provided apple doesn't intervene somehow??)
