"kernel_task"

Our Macbook Pro's battery seems to be draining very quickly. Was look at the memory and I saw this "kernel_task" that was using quite a lot of memory. Anybody know that this is?

Yeah my Kernel_task is running high. For me it all happened when i hooked up my iPhone to my mac. I've stopped wifi syncs from iTunes and messenger and it seemed to help, but i can still open up my last safari tab from my macbook to iPhone. How do i stop this? my internet is already slow because of where i live and now sometimes i can't even load a youtube video on this brand new macbook pro 8gb ram, 2.8 GHz

Please how do I stop iPhone hookup, it destroyed my brand new macbook. got it on boxing day and its slow af
