Do you mean Mac OS X 10.8? Go to Apple menu and select About This Mac to determine what you are running.

If your bank requires any particular browser and refuses to permit anything else, they should not be trusted with your money.

Find another bank. There are plenty to choose from.

Agreed browser specific banks are much more likely to get hacked, as their website design can easily be guessed by hackers, and tampered into. They need to follow standards set by http://www.w3.org/ and read http://www.anybrowser.org/ if they want to be perceived secure.

Commonwealth Bank? I'm not sure what you mean by "government bank". Is the bank in the US?

I'm serious about changing banks. If that is not an option for you then the government ought to buy you a government computer for use with the government bank and absolve you of any responsibility for its use or misuse.

Browsers are either compliant with internationally established security standards, or they're not, and both Chrome and Internet Explorer have been hacked.

Safari and OS X 10.7.5 are as secure from threats and "hacking" as anything available today. Anything better does not exist.

I've requested this thread be moved to the Mac OS X Lion forum, which is for 10.7 users. I agree Safari is far more secure than most, but not perfect. Firefox has better popup protection, though isn't perfect either. Regardless, banks that don't use established industry standards should not be trusted. And should be informed they are violating accessibility laws of their own country. In the U.S. we have something called Section 508.

Good luck but I think you are wasting your time. Don't ask them anything - tell them what you are going to do - which is close your account.

Tell them the reason if you wish, but still they won't care. There are enough sheep that will blindly follow whatever they're told. Use Chrome. Baaaaaaah.

What browser & version are you using, and what's the exact message that you get ?.
