can't get installer to open up .pkg

Hi-
Would anyone know if there is a way of downloading a copy of installer because, for some reason it opens when I try to open a .pkg, but it doesn't do anything.
Would there be any fix for this.
Thanks

Before assuming the problem is with the application try this. Navigate to Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.installer.plist and delete that file. Now try opening a .pkg?

Still not? Create a new account, name it "test" and see how your Installer.app works in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.

Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.

Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.

macjack - i am having the same problem as rugger44 - installers application is nowhere to be found - i was able to install my .pkg file using the OS X disk (using the installer app off the disk) is there a way to install the installer app off the disk without reinstalling the enitre OS

Like Rugger44 had no luck with your two previous suggestions

Many of the utilities and other Apple provided applications are not stand alone applications. They quite often depend on other files that are usually hidden. I believe this is the case for the Installer applications. There is a corresponding hidden file at /usr/sbin/installer that may be missing or is corrupted. There may be other files that the Installer application in the Utilities folder needs.

Unfortunately, the best option here is to do an Archive and Install of the operating system.
