What advantage/Disadvantages to partitioning new external hard drive? - OSX 10.6.8, 2010 iMac i7

What are the Advantages/Disadvantages to partitioning new external hard drive? - OSX 10.6.8, 2010 iMac i7

I'm reorganizing my files to accomodate a large iTunes library, thinking of partitioning a new external 4Tb drive (firewire) into 2 -2Tb partitions

One for iTunes, the other half as back-ups for photos, unprocessed video etc.

I have partitions on other drives, but there is always a percentage of space left un-used on each partition.

Any comments would be appreciated

Which is one of the best reasons for not using partitions.

The amount of space lost to partitioning is very small. Especially on a 4T drive.

If you want to create a clone backup, you would need to partition the drive. However Time Machine can exist with other files on a drive. A clone cannot.
