When you rent a movie from itunes and download it to an iPad Mini, do you need to have an internet connection to watch the movie? I want to watch the movie on an airplane.
internet connection is not required to watch movie rentals. 🙂 but you should be sure that the movie rental was fully downloaded. I suggest it would be better to rent on a computer, download on a computer and after this you can transfer the rental to iPad mini. For transferring movie rentals internet connect is required.

Download the movie to your iPad the day before. Make sure it's there! It should show in the Videos app.
When you get to the airport, BEFORE YOU GET ON THE PLANE, start the movie. This will call in to the mother ship (Apple) and start the clock on your rental.
Stop the playback.
Now, when you are on the plane, the movie should play back without wi-fi.
This has been my experience, but, to cover my butt, take a book!
