I'm new to this aspect of technology so sorry if I seem a bit lame here but what is the advantage of Apple tv if I have the ability to go wifi from my computer to my smart tv? I know if I had an old stlye tv that would be necessary but didn't think so with my newer set up.

Again I just recently purchade this setup and was hoping to watch a dvd on my tv from my mac via wi-fi, (our old dvd player won't connect to the new tv...

Thanks for your help, not trying to be difficult just trying to learn and understand.

I believe that you need a media player of some sort, I use an Apple TV, in order to access content on your computer unless you physically connect your computer to your TV. While your smart Tv will run some apps and access the internet over your wifi network as far as I know it won't access content on your LAN without a media player to act as a go between. While I haven't mirrored my iMac to my tv I mirror my iPad all the time....I can't do that without the Apple TV.
