Share fails. Output file can't be created (error -12143)

FCP X 10.1.1 Share failed (either to Master file or Export file) because "The Output File could not be created (error -12143)". I can't find that error code.

I've tried deleting render files and turning off automatic rendering and recreating Project. Clip plays fine in timeline. I've tried to Share a very short range with same problem. If there is a bad original frame, I can't find it because it doesn't stop there nor give that error message with frame number.

Do other projects export OK? Was this created in 10.1 or in an ealier version?

Try making a test library and a test project. Import a clip (one that's not in your problem project) and edit to the timeline> Try to export. If it works, import one of the clips that is in the other event/project. Add that to the timline and see whether it will export.

Thanks. I did all that, but still couldn't create Output File, then discovered the problem only existed when trying to save that Shared/Created file onto the external 4 TB disk where I store all video. But I was able to Share/Create it by saving to the hard drive instead, both for my test Project and the original problem Project. That was ok for this short Project, but would be a problem for longer videos (insufficient room on the HD). So if you or someone has an a diagnosis for this new problem statement, I'd appreciate it. But in the meantime I at least have a work-around. Many thanks for your help.

Has worked flawlessly for a year, but.... When I get a chance I'll try to other read/write other files on it.

Might be a permissions problem, or a drive problem.

Try repairing the drive in Disk Utility.

Also, you could set the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" box (Select the drive and do a Get Info in the Finder, the check box is at the bottomn of the Get Info window).
