Lots of ideas as you have way too much junk installed, including what appear to be a number of unused or formerly used software items that you may believe you uninstalled, but didn't do it properly. You might be at a point where it would be easier to start over with a clean hard drive.

Once you have used CleanMyMac2 to get rid of all the orphaned files you need to have it uninstall itself as it's probably causing most of your slowdown.

You've got adware installed. Specifically these Safari Extension:

Amazon Shopping Assistant: Version: 1.1

Ebay Shopping Assistant: Version: 1.1

Evernote Web Clipper: Version: 6.1

so uninstall them. There's probably more where they came from so use the Adware Removal Tool to check for anything else.

I have no idea what most of those Kernel Extensions are for. The PACE one seems to be out-of-date as it has the SnowLeopard version loaded.

Startup Items have been discouraged by Apple for many years now, but some older software insist on using it.

Flip4Mac and SilverLight are out-of-date. Probably others, as well.

4GB of RAM is bare minimum, so if you usually run a lot of apps at the same time, consider doubling that.

Your hosts file indicates you may be using pirated Adobe software, which is always a dangerous road to travel.

As far as I can see, everything but the Page-outs. Looks like you need to go shopping for more RAM. 4GB is the absolute minimum for Mavericks and it looks like it can't accommodate even those few apps you need.without the need to use virtual memory on your hard drive.

Had not heard of Memory Diag before, so I gave it a try. If it hadn't specifically said it was built for Mavericks I would have told you to trash it, but for now I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise. Haven't tried the "Optimize" button yet as I don't know what it does. Almost all of the old memory utilities don't work properly with the new Mavericks memory management scheme and actually make things worse for most users.

Mavericks wants to keep RAM as full as possible for maximum efficiency. The hope is that all the right software will be loaded when needed so it won't need to access your hard drive to get it or re-load it. Ideally, Page-outs would then be zero.

May 10, 2014 2:22 AM in response to vrave28

Hi vrave28,

You have too many Page-outs, which could mean you have to add Ram, but also that there is a memory leaker in one of the now installed apps.

MemoryDiag and Caffeine were not in your "wish list":

Uninstall MemoryDiag. It just reads all info from already available data in OSX. The 'optimise' is already done by Mavericks itself, so it can only thwart the OS.

Uninstall caffeine, counterproductive.

After the uninstalls, restart and run only Mathematica and use it, then make a new etre list. If the Page-outs are again in the GB region, stop and post the list here;

If the Page-outs are only a few MB, start Algodoo (and let Mathematica running) and use it a bit, then make a new list and again, when the Page-outs are in the GB region, stop and post the list;

If the Page-outs are only a few MB again, start Fractals (letting the other two run) and use it a bit, then make a new list and post it here.

The two tools memorydiag and caffeine should never return in your system.

Come on Mad, you do not need it! You are better than that! But that is not the issue here:

My problem here is, that the OP made a wishlist, on which also are hacked apps. And we would like to find out which on that list is the cuplrit for the Page-Outs. Now suddenly he is installing other "tools" that were not on his list, and so corrupting the thinking process...👿

I installed Memory Diag just to see the difference between now and a couple of days ago. I thoght that since it was on app store wasn't harmfull. Sorry if I messed it up. After uninstalling and then running Mathematica, Algadoo, Fractal Editor, GMX pageouts were 0B. Then i ran octave and the results were as follows:

If you want to see what is going on, use ActivityMonitor in the Utilities folder: it a load of information, and is much better than memorydiag.

The list looks rather good now, I propose to remove SpeechsynthesisServer from the LoginItems, and start it manually when necessary.

How does it feel now? passed the first station with the first prize!

May 10, 2014 7:22 AM in response to Lexiepex

SpeechsynthesisServer activates when there are speakable items right? Actually I work very late at night sometimes and I need a reminder of the time, that's why i activated time announcement. Beside this, I feel happy and my mac feels quite relieved I guess. 😝 So everything is more than OK! I started downloading iWork package now, but i see on purchaces that I have iPhoto and Garadgeband but not iMovie. Do I have to rebuy it?

Late 2011 13" Macbook Pro started running very slow! Any idea why?
