Yeah, there doesn’t appear to be a Mac specific driver for this particular model, or at least according to the Canon web site.

You may need to consider another option, such as an Epson scanner or some multi-function model.

but i already have this scanner. don't want to buy another scanner just to simply 'make it work' with mac. i think thats called wasting money.

funny, if compared with the: http://www.apple.com/getamac/ , it doesn't mentioning 'scanner'

"5. No, you don’t have to buy new stuff.
Your printer, camera, keyboard, and mouse will work with a Mac. PCs and Macs can usually share peripherals if they connect via USB, FireWire, or Bluetooth, three industry standards built into every new Mac. More"

so i guess 'i have to buy new stuff' lol.

Unfortunately I don't see a Canon driver nor do I see one supporting that scanner using Silverfast. Although if you're set on using that scanner (which I don't blame you....you paid for it no sense wasting it) you might try the demo of Silverfast. Or give them an email and ask about supporting that scanner...... or heck contact Canon and tell them to support the scanner in OSX.

In looking at the product specs on the Canon website, it would appear that your Canon scanner is only compatible with Windows. I have the same problem with my CanoScan 4200F. Like you, I have no desire to go out and buy a new scanner when I have one that is perfectly functional.

I did figure out how to use it with my MacBook, however (just not with the Mac OS). I have Parallels installed to run Windows 2000, and just about the only thing I use Windows for now is to use my scanner. I just open up Windows in Parallels, click on the USB icon on the bottom right corner of the Parallels screen and select my scanner from the list (mine's not listed as CanoScan, but instead shows with the odd name of Vendor Specific 04a9:221b) , and voila! Once that step is done, Windows will recognize your scanner and you're in business. Once I'm done scanning, I shutdown Windows and Parallels and go back to use the Mac OS for everything else.

So, if you have Parallels or BootCamp, you can utilize still use your Windows-only scanner -- you just have to use it through Windows. A minor nuisance, but it works!

It seems odd that Canon makes some scanners that are Mac-compatible and others that are not. Obviously something to look at when making future purchases.
