Logic X import of .son files crash

Logic X seems unable to import .son files (I know, Notator for Atari is long gone!). This is a major annoyance because I updated from Logic 9 ONLY to be able to use the Music XML function to get my old compositions into Sibelius.

I get a dialog "Damaged project or not a logic Pro X project!", and no matter what I do after that, the program crashes.

This is curious because all other versions of Logic (which after all began life as Notator for Atari) could at least open the files, even if the implementation was almost nonexistant.

Is there a workaround or a bugfix coming?

I have thought of that, and (fortunately) have not yet deleted 9... but it seems a ridiculous way to go about it, and I don't know how much the file will be manipulated by L9. It seems likely to me that no one on the developers' team actually tried out the feature!

The fact that Logic X registers .son files as default means that they MEANT it to work, and something was inadvertently broken in the coding.

I agree though it seems some .son files will work and some don't and I havent really experiemented enough to find out what the difference i between those that do and those that don't but I suspect it's probably a similar situation/cause/issue as happens with some LP7/8 files importing ok into LPX and some simply don't.

That's why I posted the workaround which typically works very well in such cases....

So far I have not found any of my .son files that do not cause Logic X to crash (I have tried probably a dozen). So it is a serious issue.

I do appreciate your suggestion, but on the other hand, it seems like Apple is advertising a feature that does not work, and I am confident that fixing the issue would be fairly trivial, seeing as how the files are readable in Logic 9.

Thanks, will do that.

Just been looking at the manual (I just installed X today), and there is an interesting discrepancy: The manual states clearly: "

The Open dialog features a File Type pop-up menu, which allows you to choose from the following options:

  • All Logic Document Types: Displays all document types supported by Logic Pro.
  • Logic Projects: Projects created with current or earlier Logic versions.
  • GarageBand Projects: Projects created in GarageBand.
  • Notator SL Songs: Songs created in C-Lab/Emagic Notator or Creator S "

...But strangely enough, the Open dialog no longer contains the "File Type" dropdown, as far as I can see, which indicates they are nervous about this issue.

The LPX User Guide, as you have found, contains several discrepancies, stemming from its basis as more of an updated version of the LP9 version of the user guide I suspect... than a new, completely fresh re-write.

The website information also contain similar errors like the Control Surface Support list, which is out of date (Its mainly a copy of the original LP9 CSS List with a few new extras added to it) and contains equipment that no longer functions 100% correctly with LPX

Interesting. Well, I have submitted a bug report, it will be interesting to see whether there is a reaction.

I have just tried opening some .lso files, and they don't work either... the program's reaction was: "These are Logic 4 files.. please open in Logic 7 and store again, then try opening in Logic X-

Pathetic. I have Logic 8, 9, and 10, so this does not help me in the least.
