You have more than enough Ram, and more than enough free diskspace.

    Looking at your software:

    - I propose that you uninstall Diskdrill for good:

    http://help.cleverfiles.com/how-to-uninstall-disk-drill/

then go into the MacintoshHD->Library->ApplicationSupport  and in there delete

    the Cleverfiles folder.

then go to SystemPreferences->Users&Accounts->LoginItems  and remove the SmartDaemon entry with the minus sign underneath

    --- Now restart the mac.

    - Then I propose to uninstall TuneUp for good:

    http://support.tuneupmedia.com/hc/en-us/articles/200440408-How-can-I-uninstall-T uneUp-from-my-computer-

    - Also uninstall the Huawei crap MobileBRServ for good, and

then go into MacintoshHD->Library->StartupItems  folder and delete

    MobileBrServ

    --- Now restart the mac.

    - And if you don't use Gopro, uninstall the gopro software.

    - After that uninstall Fuse for OSX.

    - Then you go into MacintoshHD->Users->yourname->Library->LaunchAgents  folder and delete the file

    com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-[...]@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist

    - Then you go into MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchDaemons  folder and delete the file

    com.adobe.SwitchBoard.plist

    - Check if you have the latest version of GoogleDrive, some older versions were cause of issues.

Restart the mac, make a new etrecheck list and post.

NOTE: if you have to delete a lot of render files in the Trash bin, use Terminal to empty the Trash bin:

start Terminal and copy/paste the following command:

    sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash/*

    (it asks your account password)

First and most importantly, never run any command in a Terminal window to empty the Trash. Of all the dangerous, irresponsible, incompetent pseudo-advice that circulates on this site -- and there's a lot of it -- that is the worst and most dangerous.

Please describe the problem in more detail. The tiresome "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary.

    To detail the issue more:

I deleted event and project render files from Final Cut Pro X. These did not end up in the trash and seemingly very little processing took place as I did it.

It suddenly slowed down and when I looked at the storage, significant space was freed up.

The macbook is now taking a long time to do anything - start up, opening programs, loading webpages. The spinning beach ball spins for minutes at a time.

Working my way through the list above.. thanks

Final Cut Pro: when you 'move to trash' it flat out deletes lately, not to the Trash bin.

    Much better already.

    1. The file in the user library is still there, it is not really bad, but it is not doing anything either thus I propose to remove it:

    - Then you go into MacintoshHD->Users->yourname->Library->LaunchAgents  folder and delete the file

    com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-[...]@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist

    2. Also the Tuneup visualizer plugin has not disappeared, thus yould remove it:

go to yourname->Library->iTunes->iTunesPlugins  folder and delete the Tuneup visualizer.

    ---

    Some remarks here:

    a. when deleting files from FCP, they are really gone, thus be careful there, they can not be recovered from the trash bin. When you are deleting don't wait until you have many GB's to delete, but make smaller 'batches'. This is faster because of smaller cache use.

    b. Google Chrome is/was a notorious 'memory-leaker' (see older posts by Linc), and also is not super safe. So maybe you use Safari or other browsers like Firefox or Opera. At least take it out of the User Login Items.

    c. Maybe also take Spotify out of the user LoginItems too.

    d. You probably have a good backup protocol, instead of the missing TM backup.

    e. if you have difficulty to go to the user library: in the Finder menu, GO menu, hold the Alt(option) key and choose Library in the list.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

    SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

    View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I seem to have solved the problem. I managed to relaunch Final Cut and then things started getting faster. It seems that it had not finished processing the deleted processes when I closed it previously - background tasks were still taking place.

    Thanks for all your advice.

    Yes, good work.

The whole procedure of cleaning the mac was also not for nothing.

Normally I propose (as here) to clean and remove the crapware and other, and most of the time the issues are gone, if not we look further. In your case you already solved it by restarting FCP.

    Good work!

I have tried to delete Final Cut Pro but no progress yet.

If you purchased it at the AppStore then you remove it the same way as with any AppStore purchase http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4673:

To remove a Mac App Store app that appears in Launchpad

Follow these steps while you are logged in with an administrator account:

    1. Enter Launchpad.
    2. Click and hold on an icon until you see all icons jiggle.
    3. Click the "x" button in the upper-left of the Mac App Store app icon you want to delete.
      • Note: If you do not see an "x" button, either the app is not from the Mac App Store or you are logged in as a standard user.
    4. Click "Delete" in the confirmation dialog to delete the app.

Tip: If you want to reinstall a deleted app, open Mac App Store, click the Purchases icon, then click on the "Install" button for the app.

Do you really still need FUSE?

    3rd Party Preference Panes:

FUSE for OS X (OSXFUSE)  Support

There is no reason to disable GateKeeper!

    Gatekeeper:

              Anywhere

It's very easy to bypass it when you need to by right-click / Command-click on the app and choose "Open" from the contextual menu. THat way you won't mistakenly install malware or fake apps in the future.

Lex had some additional suggestion. Have you tried those?

    1. The  ....com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert..... file is still in the user Library:

In the Finder Menu go to the GO menu, hold the Alt(option) key and choose 'Library', then in there go to the folder LaunchAgents and delete that file. It will not solve the problem, but it is superfluous.

And you still have to remove the TuneUp Visualizer internet plugin.

    2. Restart, then do not start Chrome. Use the computer, still slow?

If not slow, then uninstall Chrome and use Safari, or install another browser Firefox or Opera

    3. Uninstall Fuse for OSX, why do you need that anyway?

To uninstall OSXFUSE see https://github.com/osxfuse/osxfuse/wiki/FAQ section 2.

    4. Check the Mavericks compatibility for all applications; and try again.
