I made a ringtone. How do i easily share it with a friend?

10 years ago, this was easy. Tell me there is an easy way to share a fun ringtone I just made with a friend using simple steps like email or text msg style imports. My friend doesn't even synch her phone to iTunes and we all know what bad things can happen the first time you do that. At quick google checks, this seems enormously complicated and I fear this was made complicated so we'd all just go buy our tones from Apple. Tell me I'm wrong and provide me some simple steps 🙂

Like any other non-purchased content, it needs to be added to your iTunes library and synced to the iOS device via iTunes.

Thanks. Bummer. No iTunes in use and not worth the setting up for a simple ringtone. You know if there is a good reason for this by chance? Why these cant simply be shared across devices like pictures?

Because Apple doesn't support file sharing of audio files, because they don't support music piracy.

As TJBUSMC1973 mentioned, there is no way for Apple to determine if the ringtone was sampled from a copyrighted source.

Since iTunes is a free program, and you can email or send the audio file through other methods, I don't really see how the fun or creativity are getting knocked out.

This has nothing to do about ITunes being free. Time and simplicity are values of Apple (not cash savings). I and many others don´t use nor want to use iTunes on a PC/Mac. It simply doesnt make my life better or easier to synch my phone to it.

Think about the use case. I made a simple ringtone using the tools on my phone. I simply want to send the ringtone to a friend who also uses their phone without any use for synching to a local iTunes. Phone to phone this simply should work. I dont buy for a second that running created content through iTunes somehow would reduce any music piracy. Its an excuse. The commercial reality is there is no money behind making this easier for Apple and therefore it will likely never happen. End of story.

It is not meant to reduce music piracy but to simply absolve Apple of any accusations of readily facilitating it.

Apple is contacted to sell music and is bound by DRM.

The commercial reality is there is no money behind making this easier for Apple and therefore it will likely never happen.

If this were true Apple would not allow you to create and sync ringtones directly in iTunes without any 3rd party software. You are correct, unless DRM laws are loosened (don't hold your breath), it certainly will never happen.
