iPhone 5s model ME436AE/A no face time

I recently purchased a iPhone 5s in UAE I noticed while traveling there that I could not access FaceTime on laptop or ipad. But when I returned to the EU I was supervised to find my iPhone 5s has no FaceTime ability. It is updated to version 7.1.1 and is working fine with the Wind carrier. How is it I can not update the software to include an apple component that is standard on all their devices.

Any one have a suggestion of how to resolve the issue?

*restore has been attempted with a VPN in the US.

* iTunes idea and store account are US based.

Any ideas?

iPhone 4, iOS 6

The factime support is documented your are correct Hundereds of times in blogs and conversations like this. (IF you go and look for it) And I would expect UAE to block IP items and to have filters in place. But for the consumer that has a need for a phone becaue he was picpocketed and has no communication with the out side world. That purchases an apple produce expecting an American quality product, because it has the apple branding, only to discover its not just a regional ip issue it is actually a software issue. It is very questionable.

You are wrong about the Apple listing the specifications and functionality of the UAE phones as not having the Face time options. ( They items that are listed in this section are things like the Map avability etc.) I have read and reread the UAE page and no where does it list the lack of face time. A pratice that I would never have considered as a tourist traveling.. I expect Apple products to have apple options. (next you will tell me that Facebook is baned, and that app will just vanish from my phone.) Or I take a picture of my wife in the EU with out her hajib and the secret police come knocking on my door.

I understand that to sell the phone in that Country they must follow some laws, but to limite the ability for future updates or software correction to correcte that phone has limited capability is not the type of customer satification one expects from the Apple Company.

Apparently you needed to reread one more time. On this page:

http://www.apple.com/ae/iphone-5s/built-in-apps/

it says:

* FaceTime is not available in the United Arab Emirates.

While perhaps it would be better if Apple had just removed mention of FaceTime entirely from that page, they did provide clear warning, and they may have left that mention so as to make is clear rather than just omitting all mention and leaving people to guess. They also tell you that FaceTime is not available in the UAE here:

Thanks to all- I have contacted Apple regarding the issues.

Carjack I still dis agree they talk about availability not capability. It does not say, as the apple customer service person says the phone is actually built with out a chip so that it is not possible for the phone to have the capability.

Guys that's very different language than availability. **** is not available nor is pork in the UAE, but you van use a VPN or find a random way to get some bacon.

When I read availability I read the Government is blocking the services, not hey guys we built a phone with out the capability of ever doing this.

Apple agrees with me the language is not the beastly worded and they are replacing the phone since I do not live in the UAE, and I expect to see the wording change.

You are free to read it however you wish. That's not how I read it, but different facilities with a language can lead to different interpretations. If Apple is willing to replace your iPhone with a non-UAE model, that's great. It's not usual, and they're not obliged to do so, but my experience with Apple is that they try their best to help out their customers.

The name's not "carjack", by the way.
