No Aptx on iPhone,iPod, iPad?

Today I received my new bluetooth headphones. I was so happy at the idea to listen to music with best quality possible thanks to Aptx..

For who doesn't know Aptx is a technology that allows to provide best quakity of sound over bluetooth. I was very disappointed to find out that Apple still today doesn't offer in any of the devices like iPhone, iPad and even iPod that is meant to be to listen to music! (especially when other vendors as samsung, htc, google do have this technology in their media players and smartphones).

Anyone knows if Apple devices will support Aptx soon? If yes when?

All iPod , iPad, macs , iPod should support Aptx!

iPhone 5

I know this is an old post, but it shows up on search results, so...

The guy said one sentence about if apple people read this, and that became THE issue?

Everyone speculates here, to different degrees, even when they are sure of their helpful reponses. Only when there is a negative comment about Apple or its products, all the "non-employees" become super involved in putting the user in their place.

I know Sony hires 3rd party companies to post in their forums. And they are not Sony employees. Bad Sony.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply which confirms at today Apple still doesn't offer Apt-x in ipod, ipad, iphone.

I did ask though if anyone, and I mean also if anyone working in Apple knows if and when they will include Apt-x in their devices, because at least for me there is no point to keep using Apple devices to listen to music if they can't provide as others too... Apt-x.

Also, I just tried now in my macbook pro retina , and even here can't see if Apt-x is enabled or not. I even bought from app store an app called bluetooth explorer which is supposed to show you if Apt-x is enabled, but it not showing any device listed! (even though I am connected to my bluetooth headphones!).

If anyone could help with this issue too, would be great... I mean if I could manage to get Apt-x working at least from my macbook pro would be something, otherwise I will even have to send back the headphones. there is no point in buying a blueooth headphones if the source devices (which in this case are all the Apple devices I bought).. don't support Apt-x!!

Apple seriously, you should address this immediately with some software update if possible!!

ok, so let's forget about Apple that will take their own decision...

going back to the technical aspect as you said here is a technical forum...

Hi,

today I got my Philips AEA2500 Bluetooth Hifi Adapter (with NFC and apt-X) and I tested it with my iPhone 5, Nokia Lumia 800 und MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2012). I works and sounds good, but in comparison to Airplay something is missing. All devices sound the same via BT. I´m shure the Lumia 800 does not support apt-x, because its to old. I also found a list of apt-x supported devices:

http://www.jessebandersen.com/2012/05/list-of-apt-x-compatible-devices.html

The Mac Books are listed as supported and iPhones, iPads, iPods and the Lumia 800 as not supported.

This Page shows how APT-X works:

http://www.aptx.com/howitworks2

It seems that in my testcases not the full bandwith is transfered to the BT Receiver, beause "something was missing" in the music, the spectrum was not filled out, no volume and a little bit flat sound against the Airplay solution. In the next Days I will get an iPhone 5S and a Lumia 920 and retest it, but I assume I will not get a better result.

If you dont know the difference, the BT sound sounds well enough. I hope I will get an officially supported APT-X devices and can here the better quality.

So my open questions are:

Does the Mac Book Pro Retina (Mid 2012) really support APT-X?

Why I didn´t hear a difference between MacBook and iPhone, if the Mac Book really supports aptX?

Does it really sound better than without aptX or same like Airplay?

My Test Equipment:

Denon x2000 AV Receiver (Airplay support, PURE Sound Mode, without enabled Equalizer Opt.)

Canton Chrono SL Speakers

Philips AEA2500 BT Hifi Adapter (aptX certified)

Apple iPhone 5

Apple Macbook Pro Retina (Mid 2012, OSX 10.9.3)

Nokia Lumia 800

Spotify Music Player with extreme quality streaming (320kbits/s vbr)

Addition:

based on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3891328?start=0&tstart=0

I logged the Bluetooth Audio at Mac OSX (now 10.9.3) and I got successfully connected BT Audio with aptX

Mon Jun 2 13:31:56 201 [bluetoothaudiod:28072] AVStreamConfiguration.m:2917 [parse] +media codec: AptX

Mon Jun 2 13:31:56 201 [bluetoothaudiod:28072] BluetoothAudio.m:720 [autoConfig AptX]

Mon Jun 2 13:31:56 201 [bluetoothaudiod:28072] AVStreamEndpoint.m:1461 [setCodec] AptXCodec

Mon Jun 2 13:31:56 201 [bluetoothaudiod:28072] AVStreamConfiguration.m:2640 [getData]- Found: AptX codec

So with this I assume aptX is working on my Macbook Pro Retina. But I hear no difference to my iPhone BT connection and I tried it many times. The does not mean the BT Connections sounds bad it is really good, but not as good as airplay. My conclusion for now is, aptX is a nice marketing issue but not a High Fidelity feature or Airplay killer. Maybe with Headphones you can hear a difference, but with my equipment, which is high level, I can´t hear a real difference between aptX enabled (on MBPR) or disabled (iPhone5, Lumia800)

So if you are not using Airplay, this BT device combination is a good choise, even if aptX is enabled or not.

Apple is about money and not music quality. I own an iPhone 6 plus but my main music device is my lovely Samsung Note 4 as it supports Aptx. I respect Samsung not going cheap and are paying to include such cool technology in their devices Since many years. The music streaming in my car through Note 4 is amazing. Thanks Samsung and Aptx and bad Apple.

Samsung never owned the part of CSR which licenses Aptx (they had a 5% stake in that part of the company) but in any case they sold their entire holdings in CSR in 2014. I'm very sceptical that your car hifi can discriminate Aptx Bluetooth from regular Bluetooth as Aptx is really geared to audiophile equipment, not car stereo no matter how loud your car amp or speakers can play.

iOS devices use A2DP which avoids CSR royalties but otherwise similar if the receiving device is of sufficient quality. More here http://www.head-fi.org/t/601665/what-are-head-fi-members-views-on-apt-x-lossless -codec-over-bluetooth/165#post_11401344

i don't agree with your comment that Apple is about profit and not music quality but have no interest in arguing the point with you.
