Hi tonefromaz!

Try using this article to help you troubleshoot this FaceTime issue:

iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3367

If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, follow these steps:

  1. Update both devices (your device and your friend's device) to the latest version of iOS.
If you started to have issues making or receiving FaceTime calls after April 16, 2014, you or your friend may have an expired device certificate. Updating both devices will resolve this issue.
  2. Verify that FaceTime is enabled in Settings > FaceTime.
    • If the issue persists or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation," turn FaceTime off and then on again. Learn what to do if you can't activate FaceTime.
    • If you don't see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren't disabled in Settings > General > Restrictions.
  3. Verify that the date and time are set correctly: Tap Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
  4. Verify that both parties have an active Internet connection and are connected to a Wi-Fi network or a cellular data connection.
  5. Verify push functionality using Mail or other applications that use this feature. FaceTime uses push notifications to send and receive invitations.
  6. Make sure that you have the correct phone number or email address.
  7. Restart your device.
  8. If using FaceTime over a Wi-Fi network, go to the steps to resolve Wi-Fi network issues.

I think I found the answer. My wife and I had the same problem. The problem is that even though Do Not Disturb isn't turned on for everything else, it is turned on for FaceTime (only)—at least that is the default setting on both of our iPads. 😠

Solution:

1. Settings>DoNotDisturb>AllowCallsFrom. Its default setting is “No One.” Change it to “Everyone.” (Or make a custom setting.)

2. Settings >Sounds>RingersAndAlerts. Yours may be set to zero. Slide the button to the middle, or to whatever is a comfortable volume.

After we made those changes, it will now ring when called, even if in sleep mode. 😁

Hope this fixes it for you as well.

I had the same problem with my incoming facetime alerts not ringing. I followed all the helpful replies that had been posted to others with the same problem, and everything on my ipad was as it should be. I contacted apple technical, and the problem was that I had accidentally switched the little button next to the 2 volume buttons on the side of the ipad to off. I felt so embarrassed when the technical adviser asked me to check this first. Problem was resolved immediately.

The only person here who pinned it down. I noticed the problem when there is an update or a reset to your network, everything goes to the default. I hope Apple gets this, : 'is there anyway that the Iphone or iPad can remember the settings before if need be a reset or an upgrade or update. This allows the devices to stay as they are for what that user had created instead of returning to default because of a reset or upgrade or updates.

I have this problem too - here's some further info. iPad wifi only, iPad Air 2, 10.2. You cannot hear Incoming FaceTime calls - the screen indicates incoming call, but does not ring. I've been through every possible settings, all looks good. BUT - if I plug earphone into earphone jack, I can hear the incoming call ringer through the earphone. Unplug the earphone, nothing. Music (& other sounds) plays through the device's speaker normally. For some reason, incoming rings from FaceTime do not play through the device's speaker. Just through the headphones when plugged in. Weird, eh?

Facetime doesn't ring on my ipad when I receive a call - so I miss the call. What can I do?
