Thanks for great chart, and one possibly dumb question....

Is the chart main intention to show all the possible ways of achieving a given RAM total, or is it also showing which are preferred ways of doing it?

EG is the 'a' column preferable to the 'b' column?

Nice link Peloche, this should solve all the endless discussions about how to fill your risers with the RAM. I started to get sick of the discussions anyway, NICE WORK!!!

The chart is showing the best config for any given RAM situation. I would also say the "ideal" situation is 8D. That would give the maximum (currently), amount of RAM with the max RAM performance.

Ini order to maximize RAM performance, use 4 sticks - either 1GB or 2GB modules in the first two slots in each riser.

(I think I'm finally getting a handle on this Mac Pro RAM business!) 😉

I still find 4B confusing. It's the only situation where after the first two slots on each card are filled, the next set goes on the second card. All other instances put the third pair on the first card.

I think it sould go on the first Riser. I don't know where they got the info for that setup.

That's what I thought too. I've decided that adding 4 more 512MBs to the I have just doesn't make sense in the long run (I know I will want more the 4GBs eventually). I'm getting a pair of 1Gbs and going with the corrected 4B config.
