i cannot print to my office Ricoh Aficio MP C3002 PS printer

I am a new MAC user and am struggling a little bit with getting a printer set up. I work in an office with a Ricoh Aficio MP C3002 PS.

When I add the IP printer (using network address) the MAC recognises it, fills in it's model number and loads drivers. When I try to continue the installation I get the message " Unable to verify printer on your network" "Unable to connect to 10.1.10.24 due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?"

I know the IP address is correct, I can ping the printers web interface using Safari. I'm wondering if the problem has anything to do with our office having a printer user code for each employee? I can't see where I would set a user code anywhere in the set-up. I have no problem using the printer, uninstalling and re-installing on my PC. I'm stumped with the MAC. Can anyone suggest a solution?

If anyone is interested, I finally got the printer issue worked out by downloading PXL drivers from openprinting.org, mine was not a supported printer according to the documentation but I decided to take shot at a previous model # MP C3000, I also had to load Foomatic RIP and Ghostscripts as well as a script by Matt Broughton on the Apple support communities that allows you edit the user code for the printer.

I feel like I've been through the wringer but it works now.

Thanks to everone for their tips and suggestions.
