creating a personal set of flashcard for an experiment.

Hello everyone,

I am running an experiment and I need to produce 20 decks with 30 cards in each. Each of the card in each deck must have a string of letter in the back and a word in the front (the idea is that I have to show the string of letter to participant while reading the word the string is associated with). I do not need the cards to look pretty nor sofisticated, but I need to produce them quickly using standard office equipement: that's why I was looking at pages and the template for producing business card. However, I am facing two porblems:

  1. the template for business card is for ten card each pages, however this size is too small: I am looking for a car that is fairily similare size to a playing card ( I do not want to be too close to participants when showing the card and the string they will be looking at can be as long as 8 letters.)
  2. Assuming that I mange to print a page with only four cards instead of 10, I need the string of letter to be displayed following the longest dimension on both sides of the cards

To bring the problem back to a more general question: How do I set the size of my business card template from Pages so that they look like more playing cards? Also is there a template of a business card with both the front and the back filled?

Thanks in advance for your help.

What version of Pages?

The basic principle would be to create a set of Textboxes symetrically on a page, with a row on the left for the front side of the card and a row to the right for the back side of the card. So when you print them, then feed them back into the printer with the paper turned over, the back will be behind the front version. This will make a duplicate set once you have trimmed them, but will let you make sure that the sets match.

Add some placeholder text in the centre of an initial textbox and style that with the font and size you want.

You can drag out copies of this card holding down the shift and option keys, accurately positioning them using the Format or Inspector panels.

Save the finished version as a Template then use the template to make your actual cards.

To give detailed instructions I need to know what version of Pages you are using.

Thanks Peter,

Please accept my apologies for not specifying the Page version. I have both the newer version (5.2) and the version 2.3(Numbers'09). I am ready to use whatever version will make my job easier ( I am a relatively new MAc user and I never really worked with Pages, therefore it won't really make a difference.

THanks again for your help with this issue.

Carlo
