I am devistated to learn that when I upgrade to Mavericks I will lose iChat. My husband and I engage in a three-way video chat with our two daughters every Sunday. Without the capability to have a three-way video chat, we will have to purchase a program that allows us to do this. Why did Apple drop iChat?

Messages still has the video and audio chat features.
My facts come from using Messages on a daily basis. Besides what it states there, you can use Messages to do both Audio and Video chats as well as File Transfers and Screen Sharing.
I havent done multi video chat in over a year. I know that it worked on Lion, and that the icons still show the ability for multi chat. My guess is that you still can.

DIdn't think family video chats were possible anymore on my. Mac when Apple took away iChat.
I read the instructions on the apple link but it doesn't tell how you can invite a third person to a chat under Message. Has anyone done this? Could you explain how it works?
