Editing Fax Cover Page

How do I edit the fax cover page, such as adding/changing my address, etc.?

I can send faxes without problem, and if I check the cover page box a cover is added. However, it only includes my name, the date, the to information, subject line, and comments.

There is no contact info for me, the sender. Which template/form, or whatever, does the fax cover page get its info from, and can I edit/add to it?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Matt,

But I don't understand some of these instructions, which say: "1 Replace /usr/libexec/fax/coverpage.py with the coverpage.py from the download. Make sure the ownership and permissions on the new file are the same as the old. 2 Create the folder ~/Library/Fax and move header.rtf and footer.rtf from the download to the new folder. (~/Library is the Library in your home folder.)"

I think I get the second part, to create a new folder called Fax in my user library, and move those files there. But, what is "/usr/libexec/fax/coverpage.py? I looked in my Library folder but could find no subfolder called exec, or libexec. Where do I find this?

Thanks,

Rex

Ah, the geeky stuff. Mac OS X contains thousands of invisible files. The file that needs to be replaced is one of them. You can see the file, however, by using the Finder's "Go" menu. You will find there is an option under that menu to "Go to Folder" (shift-command-g). When you select this option, a box will appear. Here you need to enter "/usr/libexec/fax" (without the quotation marks). A Finder window will open that will show you the files.

I would first recommend that you make a backup copy of the faxcoverpage.py file by dragging it to your Home folder or some other safe place. You may be prompted to Authenticate which will need your user name and administrator's password. Don't worry if it only copies the file and leaves the original in place.

Now that there is a backup, we can move the new file into the /usr/libexec/fax folder by dragging and dropping it. Again, you will be prompted to Authenticate and possibly to "Replace" the existing file. You do want to replace the existing file.

To make sure that the newly placed file has the correct permissions and ownership, you can run the Repair Permissions from Disk Utility. That should clean things up for you.

You will need to restart the CUPS daemon or restart you computer for the changes to take effect. My guess is that you will just want to restart your computer.
