Mail app does not show messages that I send to myself
Sending mail to myself from Mail App will not show up in Sent box nor in Inbox
But it is visible in GMail both Sent and Inbox.
Sending mail to myself from Gmail is OK.

One possibility is that Mail app is set to use some other folder for your "sent" messages (it can use any mailbox, not necessarily the one that is named "sent").
Look in your list of mailboxes for your main gmail account, if you can't see the list of mailboxes underneath it, click the "show" button that appears when you hover your mouse over it. Then look for your real "sent" mailbox, click once on it, then click on the "Mailbox" menu and choose "Use this mailbox as", finally choosing "sent" - that will make sure that both Gmail and the Mail app are using the same folder for "sent" messages. That should eliminate some confusion.
But I've also found that sending mail to myself with Gmail is tricky. Depending on what Google thinks is the "best" behavior on any given day, you might see your own messages in your inbox, or just in your "sent" box. If I want to be sure to see my own messages, I send from my iCloud account to my Gmail account (I have both set up in Mail app, so I just need to choose the right "from" address).
There is no SENT box in that Google list
See setup instsructions here:
Use Gmail with Mavericks Mail
http://www.needhelp4mac.com/2013/12/use-gmail-with-mavericks-mail/
Now it works but not as expected
The mail appears in my Inbox and Sent box simultaneously
and it takes much longer time in Mail App than in Gmail
Then, deleting the mail from Inbox deletes it automatically from Sent box too !
There is no trace of it in All Mail after deleting from Inbox
Bizarre behaviour
The problem is back. The Sent box is empty, independent of recipient
What version of Mail are you using? If you haven't installed all your Mavericks updates, you may be using a buggy version of Mail (even the latest version isn't great, but it's better than earlier Mavericks versions).
If you go into your Mail settings, click "Accounts" then click "Mailbox Behaviors", is the "Store sent messages on the server" box checked or unchecked?
Are you using anything else to read or check your mail (an iphone or ipad app, another computer, etc), that might be periodically moving messages when you're not looking? Have you tried any apps, even in the past, that organize your messages for you?

You have to be more specific - when you say "the sent box is empty" do you mean the one you see in your Mail app, or the one you see in the Gmail web site?
Did you follow the instructions in the link that dianeoforegon posted?
You also should understand that gmail doesn't really use "folders" - it uses labels that are made to look like folders. A message will appear in both your inbox and sent box if it has both "inbox" and "sent" labels - but there's really only one message so if you delete it, it disappears from both places (and it may be truly deleted, or given a "trash" label, or "archived" with no label at all, depending on what settings you've chosen in gmail and your apps). You shouldn't expect Gmail to work like most other email systems, because it's fundamentally different.
Also I forgot to mention that once you tell Mail app to "use a folder as...", that folder will disappear from the Gmail section of your mailbox list (so it only appears once, in the top section of your mailbox list). Not finding "sent" listed under gmail is a good thing, it most likely means you have it set up correctly.
This same behavior occurs when I send mail to myself, and I am NOT using gmail, but my comcast POP account. It is a function of the buggy Mail Program, and no one seems to be able to explain it. I repeat, it is not a problem with Gmail.
Gmail works correctly and swiftly
It is always the Mail App that is giving a headache
After an hour or two, the sent mail will appear in Mail App too whereas it appears immediately in Gmail Sent box
Store Sent Messages is checked
The instructions from dianeoforegon were followed
I have an All Mail mailbox but no Archive
Years ago when I used my Comcast email on a mailing list, none of my replies would show up on the list. Some how Comcast thoght that since I sent it, I didn't need to see my reply so it deleted it.
Is this for all your Comcast emails?
Is Comcast setup as POP or IMAP. You might find that Comcast works better as POP. IMAP is new for Comcast.
I gave up on using Comcast email. While I still have accounts for the legacy items I used to subscribe using the Comcast email, I forward my Comcast emails via my Gmail account so it filters out the spam. You can fetch up to 5 POP accounts in Gmail under Settings > Accounts and Import.
¿Is your Comcast storry relevant here?
It shows there are circumstances where Comcast has it's own pecularities. You can feel free to ignore.
I also asked if you had your account set as POP or IMAP which you have chosen to ignore. It would be helpful to know to resolve your issue.
Thanks. It's a POP account, Comcast does not allow IMAP subscriptions, afaik, never has.
Bomiboll, this is a discussion about Apple Mail in Mavericks, not only Gmail. Yes, it is relevant.
Comcast has been rolling out IMAP in certain sections of the country.
I just tested my Comcast account in Mail and sent myself a message from Comcast account. I was able to see my sent message and my received message in the Inbox.
I'm assuming you have sent a message from your Comcast email in Apple Mail. Mail will not create a Sent folder until you actually send a message from that account.
Have you verified that the message was received in webmail? Log into comcast.net and select email to view.
Options:
1) Delete the Comcast account and add back. Note you MUST backup all Inbox messages or move to a custom folder first. Mail deletes all Inbox messages when you delete a POP account.
Select the Comcast Inbox.
Create a new message and send.
Does the new account work?
2) Go to System Preferences and create a new User.
Test your Comcast account in the new User.
I've used Comcast for a long time, and haven't had any particular problems with it, other than it not allowing IMAP. I'll strategize on how to use another server, I have three or four other choices. Thanks.
