Question

How do I resize my image im Motion so it is clear when scaled down?

I have an image that is about 2.5mb in size and was curious what or how I scale it down to keep a good resolution. If I import it now and I shrink it, it gets blurry but if I expand it to no end it gets clearer. So I basically need to know how to import clear resolution images? Thanks for any help on this topic.

File size is completely unimportant. What are the dimensions? How big do you want it onscreen?

The image I want is currently sized at a huge size, so what I did was used my HP image zone software and made the pixel size roughly 350x230. The file size shrunk but so did the quality. The image now has a blur film over the picture, it's not as pixalated but it is very blurry.

So what do you do in a case like this one, how do import pictures off a camera the size of roughly 2.5 mb.

you still haven't told us what size you're trying to display it at. what type of project are you using this picture in (NTSC DV, HDV, other)? if that's the case the reason why your picture appears blurry is because you've actually sized it smaller than your project's frame size and now its being stretched back up to the full-frame size.

if you want to down-size it before importing it into Motion, keep the width dimension at least as wide as your project's frame width. then you can resize it to fit your frame once you've imported the image. Motion should be able to handle image sizes greater than 2.5MB without much problem, so i wouldn't worry about trying to reduce the file size.

Maybe this will help. I am using NTSC DV and the original size is way bigger than the screen size so it shrinks it down, fine. But now the size I want it to be is a quarter of the screen (350x230 pixels) in other words I want text around it and the image smaller about a 1/3 of the screen but when I do that it gets very pixalated.

If you need any more info. from me on this, I will be more than willing to post it.
