Can MS send SysEx commands to hardware synth?

Hello all,

I'm wondering how I can get MainStage to send a SysEx command (F0 43 10 7F 12 0A 00 00 20 F0) to select a Patch in Master Mode of a Motif XF. I can successfully do so from an iPad app, - though I cannot see a place to send this command from a patch in MS. I see where to set MSB/LSB and PrgCh in the MIDI Output tab of an External Instrument Channel strip, but no where to have MS send a SysEx command? Is it possible?

You can generate the file in Logic 9. Look on page 2 of this discussion. The screenshots show Logic X, but it's the same process. Look in the Motif ES Manual MIDI implementation pages to find the suitable message. Let me know your progress and I'll get more specific.

Hi,

thanks for your reply on this. Note that it is not a sysex message that I need, it is a the "System Common" MIDI message "Song Select" (http://www.blitter.com/~russtopia/MIDI/~jglatt/tech/midispec/songsel.htm).

I've tried to generate this message from Loic 9 but I failed. I can generate the message from the Motif so I thought I could record it in Logic...but no, that did not work either so I think I'm giving up the Song Select-approach.

Next thing I will try is to assign each pattern (1-64) to the same Master number. Then I will create sysex-messages to switch to Master-mode, select a Master-patch and then switch back to pattern-mode. Maybe that will work.

If you still think that a Song Select-message can be sent from a *.mid-file I would be so glad to learn how to do it.

Hi,

here's an update on the issue.

The "Switch-to-master-back-and-forth"-trick did not work. The SysEx message for gettig back to pattern-mode always got me to pattern number 1, i.e. independant of the pattern number assigned to the current selected master. The reason I thought it would work is that when your in the master-mode on a master-patch assigned to a pattern number and then presses the pattern-button you always land on that specific pattern number in pattern mode.
