How to find local IP address?

For the life of me I can not remeber how to find the local ip address in OSX. I know in Windows you can type ipconfig, but what about in OSX?

I do have the widget istat pro, but I need to figure out the actaul way of finding local ip's.

arp -a

But this will get you all OSX machines:

dns-sd -B workstation.tcp

Pretty cool, huh?

I think there is also a way to ping the broadcast address but I don't know how.

Also, I have an Applescript that pings a range of addresses on the localnet, ask if you want it.

The easiest way, I think, is to simply open up the system profiler and click on the network section.

The closest equivalent to Windows' ipconfig is ifconfig

ifconfig en0

will give you the configuration of en0, including IP address. Use '-a' to get the details for all interfaces.

If you're just after the IP address itself you can use Mac OS X's ipconfig, but its different from Windows in that you need to:

ipconfig getifaddr en0
