Netgear Wireless Router problem

We have a new Netgear WGR614 which is working fine on both a Dell laptop and a white MacBook we have at home.

When doing the instalation (which was done on the Dell), based on what Netgear recommends, I set the Security type to the latest, WPA-PSK.

What we are complaining about is, every time we shut down the MacBook (or when it goes to sleep) -- next time when the MacBook is back on we can't get online.

When opening Airport Netgear says that it is connected. But we can't get online.

The only way is to click on the "Turn Airport Off" button, and then again click on "Turn Airport On"....

Isn't there a way to keep the connection onpermanently, just as it is kept on on the Dell?

Hi

I had been having a similar problem with my PowerBook and now my MacBook Pro and a Netgear WGR614v4 wireless router. Neither would connect for about 20-30 seconds after waking from sleep. A temporary solution was to power off, then power on the router every few days but the problem would return a few days later.

Recently I upgraded the firmware to V5.0_07. A key step in the upgrade was to Erase the current settings and re-enter them manually. Now the Mac's connect normally to the router. I'm running WPA-PSK, non-broadcast SSID and MAC access control.

So I would recommend upgrading the firmware if you haven't done already AND erasing the current settings and re-entering them manually.

I use exactly the same netgear with my MacBook, netgear also connect to amd athlon pc that I built myself using zykel wireless pci card on that desktop.

What I do is I set the connection to prefered connection on the system preference.

System preference > network > airport > click configure > airport choose by default join : prefered network > click + sign and enter your netgear name and wireless security.

It automatically connect when I turn on my MacBook.

Good Luck.
