Rearrange pages within an adobe document?

I'm coming over from a PC which I had Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. There is one feature in this software that I miss when moving over to make.

The ability to see all the pages within a PDF, and delete certain pages, move others around, untilt he document was the way I wanted it. I cannot accomplish this in Adobe Reader and cannot figure how to make these moves in Preview app on Mavericks.

If someone could instruct me to the best way to do this I would appreciate it.

I cannot find a Contact sheet or Thumbnails in the view menu.
There is a sidebar for Thumbnails but that is look up only .
I tried to copy drag but it does not work.

What I want to do is to copy/remove several pages from a PDF and make a separate PDF

Example: The PDF is 259 pages and I want to remove pages 15-28 into a new document.
I have "Combine PDF's" software if that helps in asking the question.
I have Adobe XI version 11.0.07

Move pages in a PDF document

  1. Choose Thumbnails or Contact Sheet from the View menu.
  2. Drag the pages to their new location.

Which View menu are you looking in, greg1424? The instructions Malcolm gave were using Apple's Preview program, not Adobe Acrobat (XI or any other version).

If you prefer to use Adobe Acrobat to do the job, consult the Acrobat help documents or Adobe forums. Tere are several ways to do the job in Acrobat XI, including "Extract Pages..." in the contextual menu in Page Thumbnails in the left sidebar.

Sorry. When you mentioned "Adobe XI" (giving a company and version number but not a product name), I jumped to the wrong conclusion. I see now that the free Adobe Reader program has a version XI these days. I haven't used Adobe Reader in quite a while, so I do not know whether it might have the tools to do what you need or not.

Is there a way to show a PDF in Preview and do what he suggests?

Yes. That is exactly what Malcolm was suggesting. Here's the relevant quote from the page to which he supplied a link:

Move a page from one PDF document to another

  1. Open both PDF documents.
  2. For each document window, choose Thumbnails or Contact Sheet from the View menu.
  3. Drag each page’s thumbnail image from its original document to the other document.A rectangle encloses the other document’s thumbnails when you drag over them. If you don’t see a rectangle, the pages won’t be included in the PDF file, but they do appear in the other document’s window.

The page remains in the original document and is copied to the other document.

In your case, you apparently also want to remove the page(s) from the original. That would be a separate step, also described on the linked page:

Delete a page from a PDF document

  1. Choose Thumbnails or Contact Sheet from the View menu.
  2. Select the page or pages to delete.
  3. Choose Edit > Delete.

When you delete a page from a PDF document, all the annotations on the page are removed as well.
