Shuffle won't play purchased music

Hello,

I recently bought an Ipod Video and I gave my shuffle to my wife. I have reformattted it to her computer, running the ipod updater. So it should be wiped clean and reformatted to her computer.

Her PC will recognize the shuffle and will allow her to drop and drag all songs onto it. But it will only play non-purchased music. In other words, all of my old cd collection that I copied. But it will not play any mp4 songs bought from itunes even though they show up on the itunes list as being on the shuffle.

Any ideas?

I'm glad to hear that other people are having the exact same problem, hopefully apple will do something to fix it. I was getting very annoyed with searching for help but getting the same "unhelpful" answers.

Maybe we should start a list of tracks that won't play and launch a boycott? for the record, on saturday i bought the new young jeezy (inspiration), new ghostface killah (more fish), the nas single (hip hop is dead) and the first song on the new snow patrol album.

Well, same problem as everyone else: out of the 36 songs purchased, only Snow Patrol would play. Interestingly, it was released a number of months ago, while the other tracks were released on Tuesday.

All tracks work fine on my 3rd gen. 15gb ipod.

Followed the '5r' link and all the rest. Nothing worked.

So...what can we do? Wait for a patch? Wait for a recall? Wait until they release the coolest ipod yet and we run out and buy?

Yes - lots of people are getting confused. It's not all new PURCHASES that are affected. It's new RELEASES - songs that were added to the iTunes store since sometime in the middle to the end of November. So shuffle users should keep on eye on the release date of the tracks you intend to download and maybe hold off on downloading new songs until it seems things are fixed. Rumors on other threads and boards indicate that it's possible that within a few weeks the tracks themselves in the store will be fixed...

On this blog http://theunfriendlyshuffle.blogspot.com/2006/12/unfriendly-shuffle.html someone started a list of 'nasty tracks'.
Since Apple is ignoring the problem and we are probably too old to use our rights to protest on the streets, we can add songs to the list, just to inform the iTunes customers.

Anyone with this problem, connect your iPod Shuffles and restore them, there is a new 1.1.5 update that fixes this issue. I just tried it myself and it works now.

I can confirm that with the 1.1.5 update all my 'troubled songs' are working.
Let's hope we can put the words 'The End' at the end of this endless thread.

Connected my Shuffle 1st Gen this morning to be informed that there was an update to the iPod software (version 1.1.5) available. I have downloaded and installed this.
I'll let you know what happens and see if this solvesthe problem.
I hope it does after my long and continued discussions with Apple regarding this.

Firmware 1.1.5 does the trick for me, I can now play all the tracks that were previously just skipped.

Latest ipod shuffle reset utility 1.0.1 fixed this for me - first gen 1gb ipod shuffle would not play purchased music but after using the utility problem dissapeared.

Just posting back to confirm that the 1.1.5 version works nad resolves the problem I and everyone else had with the 1st Gen. Shuffles skipping/not playing iTunes music store purchaased music.

Interesting to read this thread. My 1st gen shuffle has just stopped playing my purchased music. ANY purchased (from a year ago to last week). Shuffle is up-to-date, 1.1.5. Have restored it several times: still nothing.

I have the same problem which appeared when I updated to 1.1.5. Was any PC user able to fix this issue. Is there any way to downgrade to the earlier software version?
