MacBook Pro 13' Retina Late 2013 Trackpad, EFI and Boot ROM Version issue?

Hello Everyone,

This is my first question on Apple communities, since I am fairly new to Mac OS

So I have purchased a MacBook Pro 13' Retina late 2013 a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed that there is a little bit of lagging in the Trackpad and keyboard, like if I leave the laptop for about 5 or more seconds, and come back to swipe up or down the Trackpad doesn't respond right away, I mean it lags a little then it works just fine until I leave it again and come back to it later. This is very annoying, and it does happen to the keyboard as well, because if I leave the laptop and come back to press anything in the keyboard, it will not respond right away it will take a second to respond! (I literally do not touch it for about 5 seconds and it does lag after I start using it)

I have contacted Apple, went to the store and exchanged it with a nother one, but unfortunately, same problem exists!

Here is what I noteiced though, When I looked at the Boot ROM version, I noticed that it is different from all the other (same) model MacBook I have tried either at the store or even by researching online.

My ROM and SMC are:

Boot ROM Version: MBP111.0138.B07

SMC Version (system): 2.16f63

Now every single MacBook I have tried has a different ROM version and even SMC version. For the ROM, I found out that the version is MBP111.0138.B03, and mine is "B07" (the last three degits)

By the way, My Mack is like I said Retina 13' Late 2013, has a 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD, 2.4GHz i5.

Again I have tried the same exact model at the store, and found out that the correct version is installed which is not mine I believe

Can someone please tell me why my ROM version is different, I mean I am running the same OS Apple store computers are running which is 10.9.3

Any help will be highly appreciated!

Thanks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

You can change it for a new one but there's no guaranty that the new will not have the same problem, happens to me twice! After I went for the forth time to the Apple Store, they told me that it may be a software problem so there's nothing they can do and that they can't give me a new one.

Connect a USB mouse or flash memory solves the problem, but I hope that a real fixe appears soon, maybe on 10.9.4.

I now have the same Macbook Pro but with a differente Boot Rom version. I have to say that the problem is only for that Boot Rom, this computer doesn't have, for the moment, any issues so I hope that Apple will release a fix or a firmware update that can help all of you with that problem! Good luck and I hope that in some weeks you'll have good news!

I hope indeed it appears soon. I have used the Apple Bug Report or simething like that to report tht problem. That program is only available on Beta Softwares so I hope that the guys at Apple give it a look and try to figure out what the problem is. I think the only thing they have to do is to fix the firmware software, so let us wait for that firmware upgrade.

For the moment I haven't experienced any freeze.

Hey Guys,

Same problem here. I bought in Apple Online Store my MBP Retina i5 256GB 16GB in the end of April. I noticed strange trackpad/keyboard behavior during the system setup. After a few days I called Apple and told I am not happy. They replaced my machine for a new one. Same problem. Both of them have the same EFI version which is MBP111.0138.B07. I've checked a few newly purchased Macbook Pro's and they all have B07 EFI version and the same trackpad behavior.

After some investigation I have discovered:

  1. The log message "The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup" is present on all MBP Retina's Late 2013. However with EFI B03 there is no problem while waking up the system with trackpad/keyboard after 5 seconds of inactivity.
  2. On my laptop with B07 sometimes I'm able to turn turn this little freezing off. When I do this the system message has a (1) at the end while when freezing is present there is (2) at the end.
  3. I'm able to turn it off for a while (sometimes one day, sometimes a week or even two) by connecting something to the USB port (mouse, wireless mouse, usb drive etc.). When the USB device is connected the log message disappears and so does the problem. When I disconnect the USB device freezing sometimes is not present but the log message is back with (1) at the end.

Hope this helps someone and Apple prepare an EFI update soon 🙂

Hi guys!

Sorry for my bad english, I'm french :/

So I bought a Retina 13" 2 days ago and I have the same problem with my trackpad. After approximatively 5 seconds without using the computer, my trackpad lags when I use it (for example to scroll down...) and I'm in B07 too.

My mother has an MBP13 (without Retina) since 2012 and the trackpad works well. It seems to be laggy (like mine), but it's faster than mine to "restart", so it's not a problem when I using it.

So I think about a software problem, and I hope Apple will fix this very soon!

I hope you can understand me x)

edit: I plugged my Razer Mouse, and when I using the trackpad, it works well!

editt2: But I don't have any problem with the keyboard. Only the trackpad 😉

I have the same problem, but it's not just the trackpad and keyboard lagging - I get the pinwheel thing and my computer freezes for several minutes. The weird thing is that the clock keeps going and if I'm playing videos (on VLC) they'll keep playing, but I can't move my mouse or any windows, or even switch between windows using Cmd + Tab. I really hope there's a fix soon, especially since I'm living in Peru currently and there are no Apple stores I can take my Mac to get it replaced

I also have the same problem.

I have os version 10.9.5.

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro11,1

Processor Name: Intel Core i5

Processor Speed: 2,6 GHz

L3 Cache: 3 MB

Memory: 8 GB

Boot ROM Version: MBP111.0138.B07

I downloaded macBook Pro Retina EFI Update v1.3 from here :

MacBook Pro Retina EFI Update v1.3

but I can't install it: the message says "This software is not supported on your system."

what should I do?

Same problem.

I took it to the apple store and ask to revert back to Mavericks. Stopped for a few minutes then the problem came right back.

It's pretty annoying ... Seriously hope they come out with a solution soon.

And when I was on Yosemite, my battery life was cut in half ... 9 hours to 5. Anyone else have this problem??
