Files with a date set to Jan 24, 1984 3:00 AM

It's the Mac's birthday. It probably defaults to that date if the original date is lost or corrupted. Just guessing.

Select the text on the line below by dragging across it. Don't include the blank space at the end of the line. Only the text should be highlighted.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V, then press the space bar.

Now switch to the Finder and and select the item(s) in question. Drag into the Terminal window. More text will be added to what you entered.

Click in the Terminal window to activate it, then press return.

Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered—the text, please, not a screenshot.

If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting.

Open System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time then select: Set date and time automatically

If that dcesn't help, reset the PRAM > Resetting the PRAM

Date and time are fine on the Mac. Correct, already automatic. It seems to be generated by whoever is writing the Canon.com drivers for Macs... what I want to know is ... why?

Don't worry, it's an Easter egg. It's the first time you could have downloaded a file, because it's the Macintosh's birthdate.
