Agree a wee bit. My related tech work experience dates back to 1967 and the most important lesson learned is test, and test some more before releasing software. With Apple wanting to enter the Health Business releasing untested software is a liability waiting to happen. My Halos randomly quit providing the ability to adjust the microphone which means they do not correctly function as hearing aids either.
The other lesson learned is to proactively and correctly communicate with your customers.....Starkey at first posted that the Halos were compatible with the 6 and iOS 8 which was information many of us relied on when deciding to purchase the new iPhone. Then they tell us they had no basis for that statement. We have not heard from Apple.
The made for iPhone Phonak hearing aids do not have the same issues It appears. If true why the difference?
If you are trying to challenge the fact that some devices are having trouble and some are not, you're thinking of the problem in the wrong way. This "stuff" (hardware, software, standards, etc.) are so complex that sometimes there will be situations where some devices don't work....and for reasons that can be extremely difficult to sort out. Under the same circumstances, there will be devices that do work....equally inexplicably.
If you look around this forum, you will find at least one individual who has not had a problem with his/her Halos and an iPhone 6. that doesn't suggest that those having a problem are hallucinating.
So to, if Phonak aids are working well with the iPhone 6, are they all working well with the iPhone 6?
My read of posts to this forum would lead me to place a Vegas bet on "No."
Are you sure the Phonak versions are released? I was asked by my Audiologist to try a pair but she said they would not be released until November. If they are, you can be assured that I will be calling for a pair to try on Monday.
My audiologist is unaware of Phonak issues and she sales both. So my question is did Phonak test and Starkey did not, or ???
Yes they have been out for sometime. Smaller, shorter battery life different sound. Suggest research before giving up on Starkey. Both appear to be excellent.
Based on Starkey public posting that the Halos were compatible with iOS 8 and iPhone 6 I ordered the 6 on September 12 since I needed a new iPhone. I also sold my 5S. The 6 was delivered early in the day on September 19. It was clear immediately that it did not work with the Halos. I called Starkey Tech support right away and they tried to convince me that I did not know how to pair the devices and that the 6 was compatible. (Sometimes customer service types assume that if you are over 70 and hard of hearing you have no tech skills despite almost 50 years of tech experience). Because the iPhone telephone would not now work I gave up and said when I could get to a land line I would call back. An hour later when I called back the answer was a rather abrupt "we do not support the iPhone 6” with no helpful suggestions. When pressed they blamed Apple for thier untrue previous advice. When I then called Apple they were unaware of the issue. So my being an apologist for each is a low priority. And I am a fan of both.
Did Starkey not pay to test? Did Phonak test since I cannot find similar problems for theirs? Did Starkey rely on Phonak testing? Are there Phonak issues? Is this a software or hardware issue? Can it be fixed? When? No one is talking so far. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What Phonak models are you referring to? I am not able to find anything from Phonak that is "made for the iPhone?"
Thanks
My mistake I meant Resound.
iPhone 6
PAIRING & APP works for me
been working perfectly with iphone 6 and iOS 8 & 8.0.2
my only trouble today - CANT GET HA to even TURN ON.
it beeps in bursts of threes. Or in bursts of10's repeating.
BUT NEVER TURNS ON.
ive replaced battery.
Ideas?
aare you wearing Custom ear molds? If so replace the wax guard.
The bad news is that I had a conversation with a senior Apple Tech person today and Apple is unaware of this problem and is not working on a fix as far as their tech support records show. The good news is that he has now requested Apple Engineering for advice however I was warned that a reponse might take "some time". I was also promised a call back when a response became available.
Separately I am going to talk with AT&T were I ordered the 6 and see if I can get an extension on their 14 day return policy since it is unknown if this is a software or hardware issue.
It might be helpful if more of you call Apple and Starkey as well. Pointing out to Apple tech that Starkey now says that the Halos are not currently compatible helps their understandin.
Not custom. Just the earbud with vents. Earmolds plug up easy?
I can hear beeping loud and clear so believe tubing is unobstructed.
Can halos lose their programming from audiologist?
i Have contacted them to see what's up.
Good news .... I hope.
This morning, my Halo's seem to be working on my 6+ just like they did on my 5s!
Everything is working properly? Trulink app? Phone call connectivity 100%? That would be fantastic... may give it a shot myself later.
