mobile me preference

Help! I have googled this question with no success, so if you can help I will be forever grateful.

I have a Mac running 10.6.8

A window pops up every half hour saying "Verify your MobileMe member name and password in MobileMe System Preferences."

I have no Mobile Me in my preferences pane and cannot find anything anywhere to throw out.

Is there perhaps a way to reinstall Mobile Me and then uninstall it, might that take care of the problem?

Thanks for any help, this is REALLY starting to drive me craaaaaaaaaazy.

MobileMe is Apple's defunct cloud syncing system. It was replaced by iCloud which only runs on 10.7 and above.

Click the Apple menu, go to System Preferences. You will see a MobileMe icon somewhere on that screen. Click that, and erase any login information you have entered there (perhaps from an old MobileMe login).

Thanks Matt, but...

I know all that. Problem is there is no MobileMe icon in System Preferences. I know because I made the mistake of deleting it several mon ths ago, which is when this problem started.

The only place on my computer where the name MobileMe appears is in SystemPreferences/Accounts. where it shows the old MobileMe user name. Next tot hat is "change", which cannot be clicked on.

Funny, as I am writing this the error message popped up - this is what I cannot get rid of. I have scoured the computer for anything that had MobileMe or iDisk - nothing. Thanks for any help. I greatly appreciater you getting back to me, but I knew everyhting you told me.
