Redirect loops when using the Cloud wifi - please help!

Hi

I am able to log into gmail and access e-mails and google docs, and certain websites. However anytime I try to click a link I get a redirect loop message. Also on some websites such as bbc.co.uk or hotmail will not load and I get the message then.

I don't have this issue when connected to my home broadband or mobile hotspot so have isolated to it being related to when connected to the Cloud.

I have cleared the cache and deleted my cookies from the beginning of time (and restarted) and no change

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :-)

Carolyn,

Katy is having an issue logging into The Cloud - a Wifi hotspot provider in the UK - not iCloud.

I've had the same problem many times before and it seems to occur when using a third party DNS server rather than the default one that The Cloud provides.

The soluiton, therefore, is to remove any third party DNS records whilst trying logging on via The Cloud and things should work normally.

Have fun!

Good answer. I had Google's DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) hard-coded due to unreliable DNS on my home wifi. Removing those two items (System Preferences->Network->Wi-Fi->Advanced...->DNS) caused the DHCP name servers to pop in, both in the 10.0.0.0/8 range, and then everything was fine. I'd speculate that service.thecloud.net on the Internet resolves to a host which helpfully redirects you back to the original page - but on "the cloud" wifi it routes to an RFC1918 address (probably on the router) which does the required public wifi prompt:

$ host -t a service.thecloud.net

service.thecloud.net has address 10.5.2.1
