At this point in time you are out of luck. Sprint is not abiding by the CTIA agreement at this point in time. They have until 1/1/2015 to fully comply.

I paid my ETF with Sprint and requested they unlock my iPhone 5. They provided me an MSL Code which is useless for iPhones. The rep assured me that the unlock code would unlock my iPhone (a lie). Their technicians stated my iPhone cannot work on TMobile or AT&T (which is a lie).

I had a three-way call where an apple tech and a sprint tech discussed the issue. The Sprint technician stated they have no way to unlock the iPhone (headquarters has not allowed the unlocking of iPhones).

I filed complaints with the BBB and the FCC. I got a call from a sprint rep conerning my FCC complaint and he stated they will try to unlock my iPhone 5. I did not hear form hi for about two weeks so I called him back. The rep stated Sprint would not unlock my iPhone and that he ahd sent a letter stating Sprint would not unlock my iPhone.

Sprint has repeatedly lied about unlocking iPhones and why they canot unlock iPhones. I was fortunate enough to move to TMobile and have great coverage everywhere I go.

Everything I've read here says that Sprint will unlock iPhones but only for use with international carriers. Unfortunately, the Sprint iPhone can't be used on another US network as Sprint doesn't currently allow for this. I find it odd (but not surprising) that you got run around in circles by them.

They're not quite lying when they say the phone can't work on AT&T/T-Mobile. They're refusing to unlock it so it could be used that way.

Sure they don't. Do a google search and tell me that again. Who said anything about CDMA?

Facts are the sprint outs a software unlock on iPhones even after the contract has been fulfilled. The business tactics used are underhanded and hurt the consumer.

If sprint can unlock the iPhone for international use, then why are they opposed to unlocking for domestic use? In terms of Sprint and iPhone unlocking I do know my facts. Sprint will refuse to unlock your iphone and will not hesitate to lie to you about why they cannot unlock it for domestic use.

Regardless of why they do not unlock phones for use on domestic GSM carriers, they don't and they don't have to.

No they don't as has been pointed out to you many times. Sprint is CDMA and the CDMA portion of the phone will only work on Sprint's network. Sprint will unlock the GSM side for only for international, not domestic.

then why are they opposed to unlocking for domestic use?

Because they want to lock you into their system. You bought their phone. You made the choice.

In terms of Sprint and iPhone unlocking I do know my facts.

Apparently not.

Sprint does not have to tell you why they won't unlock for domestic use. That is part of the contract you signed with Sprint. Accept it or go to another provider.

Again, CDMA is not the issue in terms of unlocking the GSM portion of the phone. Is that difficult to understand? If it is search for difference between CDMA and GSM, then read further and see that the iPhone is a world phone.

You state Sprint has not put a software lock on the GSM side of the iPhone yet Verizon uses the same exact model of the i the iPhone 5 (model a1429), and if you pop in a tmobile SIM card or an AT&T SIM card the phone will work on any of those carriers UTILIZING THE GSM SIDE OF THE PHONE.

Just stop. It's embarrassing.

St._Clair said it. Sprint doesn't and doesn't have to at this point in time. But it is not due to the limitations of the iPhone. It is a carrier based lock imposed by the carrier. Understood? Great!

You seem to be arguing against yourself here, no one has said CDMA is the issue, unless it is an iPhone 4.

Verizon made a deal with the FCC in a transaction to acquired more bandwidth and agreed to unlock the GSM side of their iPhone 5, 5c and 5s but no one knows if the deal extends beyond that. This agreement did not apply to the Verizon iPhone 4s and despite the fact it is a world phone they will only unlock it for non-domestic use. The agreement does not apply to Sprint.

Meg never said (nor did anyone else here) that Sprint won't do so because of technical limitation, you read that into her reply. We all agree it is a carrier based restriction. Everyone has said that. We all know that.

Understood?

And Verizon's agreement with the FCC was to unlock the GSM side of the phone. Sprint has no such agreement with the FCC. I stated that Sprint HAS LOCKED the GSM side of the phone for domestic use. International use the GSM portion can be unlocked.

Just stop. It's embarrassing.

Words to which you should be following closely.

CDMA is specific to a provider. Period. Sprint has theirs, Verizon has theirs. The two are exclusive to the provider. Got it?

I never stated it was a limitation of the iPhone. You are inserting statements that were never made to attempt to cover your cluelessness.

I have a Verizon phone, iPhone 5, CDMA. I also use GSM providers when I am traveling overseas. I can use a T-Mobile domestic SIM in my phone because the GSM slot is unlocked as required by the FCC. However, had I acquired the phone through Sprint I would have needed to ask Sprint to unlock the GSM slot for overseas. That unlock would still have blocked me from using GSM providers in the US as Sprint was never required to unlock the GSM side for domestic use.

Understood? Great!

You should be asking yourself the question, not others.

Yes, I'm well aware of the reason. And it remains irrelevant. Sprint doesn't unlock their phones for use on domestic GSM carriers. Knowing why doesn't change anything. Understood?
