Unlocking my sprint iphone 5
I'm staying with sprint but they won't unlock my phone for nothing
I'm staying with sprint but they won't unlock my phone for nothing
Sorry for resurrecting an old post but I'm faced with a choice that clarification of CITA will help. Like some of I have the iphone 5 and planning to upgrade. The temptation is there to switch to Verizon however the service I have with sprint in NYC is sufficient. I wanted to upgrade to the iphone 6 question lies in when. Under CITA come jan 1 will they fully unlock my iphone 5? if so I wouldn't worry about the upgrade, but from my understanding they will only unlock iPhones manufactured after this date. Which means I should not upgrade till then as I would have another unlock able phone.

Only Sprint will be able to tell you what their plans are. However, whether or not Sprint will unlock the iPhone 5 for domestic GSM use or not, you still won't be able to use it on Verizon. Verizon is a CDMA carrier. "Unlocking" is not a concept that has any meaning for CDMA. CDMA carriers will only activate phones that were sold for use on their network.

So give them something...
try try complaining to the FTC instead of the FCC they already sued AT&T i'm sure they won't mind suing Sprint too! Make them buy back the phones at the price they were worth when you signed your contract if they refuse to unlock them. That's wasteful.
Sued AT&T for what? And had them do what?
I done this just this weekend to let you know how recent it was so I typed this up in that I have been researching this topic for the longest so give it a shot and I think your going to like the results and yes I did lie about going over seas but it worked and its sad I had to do that yet they say they can't unlock the phone. There is always a loop hole. Also to anyone who ever said that CDMA and LTE networks couldn't work in the same phone, they have been lied to, lying to themselves and lying to you. Hope this helps.
I don't think anyone has said CDMA and GSM couldn't be in the same phone so I don't know what new knowledge you are bringing to the table. As far as unlocking for international use you do not have to lie about it in order to have a loophole. You qualified for the GSM unlock or they would not have done so even if you told them you were going out of the country. Your letter doesn't prove anything.
You just responded to a year old post. There's nothing wrong with that, but the situation has changed in a year. Last year all of the US carriers agreed to unlock phones where the contract commitment was met, with an effective date of January 1, 2015. Most started doing it immediately after the agreement was announced in August last year, rather than waiting for January 1. Even Sprint agreed (although they were later than the other carriers, waiting until 2015).
On a related note, Verizon iPhones have been unlocked for GSM use out of the box since the iPhone 5 was released, for both domestic and international use.
