Does the current Gameover Zeus and CryptoLocker affect Mac's or is it still limited to Windows only?

Actually, it IS bad to put an anti-virus program on a Mac. It's about as useful as **** on a bull. All it does is suck up space on your hard drive and use up RAM. It doesn't actually protect you from anything. Avira, Avast, AVG, MacAfee, Norton, Sophos.....don't bother. Seriously. Do. Not. Bother.

In the off chance some malware or adware gets onto your computer, you can either download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac, a highly recommended program (not just by people here, but by those at the Genius Bar in Apple stores, and they wouldn't recommend something that will harm your system) or you can remove it manually, and there are instructions here on how to do that. Other than that one program that I'd say 90% of Mac users won't ever have use for anyway, there is literally no program available that will keep your computer safe that is better than the gray matter between your ears. Don't download third-party programs whose developers are not easily figured out, do not download software via torrents, do not click on dodgy links in e-mails or online, make sure you have an ad blocker on your browser like Adblock or Adblock Plus, and for God's sake, DO NOT install any kind of cleaners, optimizers, refreshers, or whatever else the "program" is called that supposedly will make your computer run more efficiently. All it does is allow malware and adware to funnel onto your hard drive like beer at a kegger.

I suppose if you are running Windows in a partition it would cause problems.

You can also pass it on to Windows machines (and there are still those who will listen to someone who tells them to shutoff Norton).

Understand this about malware detection - if its something entirely new - never been done before - malware software will not detect it until its found/reported.

I run Intego written for the mac - and allow it to check for windows and linux malware along with anything for mac.

Never had a problem because I choose when to pick up the update & do a quick or full scan at the time of my own choosing (always when I am not using the mac - as it is not joined to my hip).

TRied this twice and still get the same message. Do we need to completely reboot the computer?

Force Quit Safari. Go up to  --> Force Quit --> Safari. Then restart Safari in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key. This prevents previously opened tabs/windows from reopening. If it still comes up, Force Quit Safari again, and turn off your Internet, either by unplugging the ethernet cable from the computer or turning off the WiFi. Restart Safari. Without Internet access, the site can't load. Go into your History and remove that site. Plug the ethernet cable back in or restart your WiFi.

In the future, stay away from the kinds of shady websites where browser hijackers like that reside.
