Really lost on installing Mavericks...any help?

OK, I am totally lost. I have 2 partitions on my hard drive. I did a test on Lion a couple of years ago and put that on one partition and still have Snow Leopard on the one I use daily. Haven't been into Lion for a while and never did put the final version on there...but have 2 HD's on my desktop, Lion and Snow Leopard. A couple of week's ago I decided to update Lion to Mavericks to test it before I install on Snow Leopard. I restarted and selected the partition with Lion and signed in, about info said I was on Lion, did the install for about 45 minutes, said I was on 10.9.3. Then I switched to Snow Leopard and that showed on Mavericks also, but startup disk showed Lion. Thought I messed up but lost emails so contacted FiOS and they got my emails back after an hour so thought OK. But was strange because the startup disk kept showing weirdly, like the same for Lion and Snow Leopard. Now when I go into the Lion partition it shows 10.6.8 and startup disk Snow Leopard...why isn't it startup disk Lion or even Mavericks? And where did Mavericks go??? When I installed Mavericks it didn't ask to do any certain type of install so just did an install and left all my files, etc., (want to see if my Quark will work in Mavericks) and when said was on 10.9.3 Quark still seemed to work. Now when I restart and go back to Snow Leopard or Lion it shows 10.6.8 and startup disk Snow Leopard for both partitions...So what happened to Mavericks??? I really would like to install Mavericks on ONLY the Lion partition and leave my current programs there. Can someone tell me exactly how to do that and what it should show under About this Mac when I restart and select the other partition??? I have no idea where Mavericks went or if it is somewhere on here. Snow Leopard I have my apps lined up along the left and Lion it is along the bottom - snow leopard has a different background (a picture) when in it and Lion has a generic blue background so I am sure I am going between partitions, aren't I? I just do a restart and select the other partition and sign in. When I was in Mavericks once I had some option in the top right corner to switch between partitions and seemed to be able to just switch them, but none of that is there now and no Mavericks anywhere I can find. Any help is greatly appreciated. Can anyone tell me where Mavericks is and how and I can only upgrade the 2nd partition with this - don't want to touch my Snow Leopard in case issues in Mavericks. Thanks. Gary

OK, deleted GJFS and Mavericks Partition 2 so only shows Gary Schnetter under Users/Groups and in Gary Schnetter HD under user garyschnetter shows all my files I need yet. But it doesn't show the deleted folder here, that only shows in Maverick (or did when I was last in there). When I double click on Snow Leopard hard drive under users it still shows garyschnetter (with the files I need) but also still shows gsnicker (which has the new folders installed with Maverick with red circle and minus mark. Pix below. Do I now go to Maverick and try to erase that deleted folder?User uploaded file

Your last screenshot shows that the 'Deleted Users' folder is still present, along with an extra 'Desktop' folder within the /Users folder; and a folder for GJFS.

Those three folders won't actually do anything, except take up space. So if you're satisfied that all of your data is where you expect it to be, and/or backed up/stored elsewhere... they can be trashed.

Aside from space, there's no hard in leaving them there for now if you want to be more certain after using 10.9.3 for a while.

>>Not sure what shows in Mavericks...

That is in Mavericks, the image you posted.

OK, but now how do I get everything to work in Mavericks. I am going to change startup disks now and go to Mavericks, but am sure I still don't have my garyschnetter folder there to use there. So dont' have my itunes music, iphoto pictures, favorites in Safari, mail from mail transferred, address book, pictures, Quark files, etc., to be able to use there? We got ridof the extra stuff, but don't have the garyschnetter user folder into Mavericks so it is activated there to use those preferences to get the above stuff???

OK, I'm wrong, I do have itunes, iphoto, my pictures and all here now. Now I am confused...So please explain about partitions and users...I can be in either partition and my user will always be Gary Schnetter in top right corner and those files will stay with me? If I only work in Maverick and at some point go back to Snow Leopard, since i'm under Gary Schnetter, will the files be updated there as well like if I add any pictures, itunes, etc.? Is there somewhere I can read about how this works because it is very confusing..I do not have my mail though, but bookmarks, address book, itunes, iphoto seem to be all here and about this mac shows 10.9.3 Maverick so I am in the right place, right? So I can use either Snow Leopard or Maverick by doing the startup disk thing and all files are in both places? I just want to use Mavericks now and wioll eventually get rid of Snow Leopard and not update that once I get mail transferred so just need to find out how to transfer all my saved mail. My favorites and bookmarks are all here as well so only need mail and guess that is all I am missing right now. Just confused on what I did but think I was in Mavericks, but using a different user, right? You know you really are a saint to help me through this and I cannot express how much appreciation I have for this assistance. So if you know how I can get mail here now I think I will be able to have everything here.

>> I can delete the empty deleted folder, GJFS, and the 2 library folders?

No. The 'Deleted Users' folder; the 'Desktop folder just beneath it (with the red 'no entry' icon); and the GJFS folder.

>>I can be in either partition and my user will always be Gary Schnetter in top right corner

Yes

>>... and those files will stay with me?

>>> If I only work in Maverick and at some point go back to Snow Leopard, since i'm under Gary Schnetter, will the files be updated there as well like if I add any pictures, itunes, etc.?

No. What you've got in Mavericks now will only be updated or altered within Mavericks. The same goes for Snow Leopard. If you add photos/music etc to one, it will not be reflected in the other, despite both partitions having users with the same name.

>>Just confused on what I did but think I was in Mavericks, but using a different user, right?

Right

>>So if you know how I can get mail here now...

Mail should have been migrated along with iPhoto/iTunes/Bookmarks etc etc.

It's late here, so I suggest that you start a new thread about Mail being missing after migrating & you'll get some more help. Say what happens when you open Mail & what mail accounts & emails are visible; compared with what you expected to be there.

Your future question & responses will be much easier to read with a paragraph now & then.
