i just download an album off this bandcamp website, extracted it and tried to cop it/ drag it into my ipod, but when i did it said that the audio format wasnt supported? what does that mean? what do i do???

Bandcamp offers a choice of audio formats, and one of them -- FLAC -- cannot be played in iTunes. When you buy from Bandcamp, make sure to select MP3.
As for the FLACs you already have, you can either request Bandcamp to replace them with MP3 files, or you can run them through a 3rd party converter that can convert FLAC to MP3.
And if you did purchase FLAC files and you want to keep the original sound quality, you can convert to WAV, Apple Lossless or AIFF instead of MP3, though those will be much larger files and may well fill up your nano too quickly. Most people find that 256 Kbps AAC or MP3 a good compromise between quality and file size.

Apple Lossless is almost the same size as FLAC and is of course identical in quality to FLAC. Once you have the music in iTunes in lets say Apple Lossless it is possible to get iTunes to automatically convert down to AAC when syncing to an iPod and still leave the high quality Apple Lossless files on your computer.
