Sophos has its own uninstaller Remove Sophos.... in the Applications folder. For AVG http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

I have a somewhat different take on this than Andy does. I know there have been problems with Sophos and 10.9, but haven't seen anything with any regularity with Sophos and 10.6. (Maybe Andy can explain where he's seeing that.) You should never have been running two on-access AVs together. That creates conflicts. I would uninstall the AVG crap and leave Sophos for the time being, which is a decent AV, and see if Safari starts working properly.

And did you try turning off the two Web protection features in Sophos? That's where the conflict with AVG would mostly likely have been. If that fixes it, I'd still get rid of the AVG crap.

Thank you everybody. Success at last. I tried all your points one by one. In the end I wasn't absolutely certain what happened. I had firefox open but couldn't download Safari 5.1.10. I checked the preferences of Sophos and as everything was off, I moved everything to on. I then tried to download 5.1.10 again and it worked. So I'm back in business. Thanks again Guys.

Hi Guys,

I rtied to remove AVG and found out that AVG is very complicated and could be dangerous to remove. I think Trustee Raport could have been the trouble as everything had been alright for years before I had that. So as I have decided to keep link scanner I checked Sophos preferences and selected default. Result unable to open Sophos.

Back to Sophos moved everything to open, Result all OK. Very strange as it's been on default for ages.

That's computers for you. Thanks again.
