how to delete metronome sound from a garage band recording

A speech recording on garage band has a metronome sound embedded. Can this be edited out?

Thanks!

You will not find Audacity in the menu. It is a free Audio editor with many useful tools.

If you want to manually cut out the metronome clicks,

  • Open the Track editor,
  • Zoom in, until you can see the clicks,
  • Position the playhead right before a click
  • Then split the track using the command "Edit > Split Track at playhead" before and after the click.
  • Select the cut out click region and delete it.

As I said - a lot of work. If you have any chance to record the audio again, do that, it will be less trouble.

You will have to cut out each single metronome click using the Track Editor, I'm afraid.

If your track is a stereo track with the metronom in the middle, you could try to remove it with Audacity by adding an inverted left channel to the right channel, but this will not be perfect.

See this Bullets & Bones entry: http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/RemoveVocals.html

BTW, I downloaded Audacity. I can see the two tracks. If I find how to invert and add the tracks, how would that delete the beat of the metronome

It will not work, if the source of your speach recording is also in the center of the stereo base. But if the metronome is in the middle, and the speaker to the far left or so, use the menu entry "Effects > Remove vocals" - this is at the bottom of the Effects menu. Adjust the frequency range in the menu, that the voice frequencies (the lower frequencies) are kept, and the higher frequencies suppressed.
