When I rent movies with my apple tv, there's a black rectangular spot, in vertical orientation, centered in the bottom third of the screen. Does anyone have any idea what it is, why it's there, or how to get rid of it?

I found the same topic in another forum. It appears to have been going on so long that an updgrade seems like the less frustrating option:

never heard about anything like that
I would first try to disable subtitles in the settings to see if they had something to do with it
then I would test with another tv to see if the tv was somehow doing it
then I would take a photo and attach it so people had some sort of visual to tie togehter with your post which could very well make them connect the dots in a more effecient way
If "connect the dots" is a pun, I admire you already. I'll definitely take a photo to post here.
I've disabled subtitles, so that's eliminated. But I also can test it on another TV.
